Yeah, the 80s was a different time. Cherish those old pics with dignity, you at least had a normal family. I shredded or burnt all of my shitty family's photos. Glad to not have anything to do with those people.

Also, take your time, reader, when trying to pry 2 molten-together photos apart. It will be ok, just don't rush it. Use a knife only if absolutely necessary.

I guess it’s just my rose-tinted glasses getting the better of me, but people made life look mostly harmless back then. I know it sounds naive to say, but from a kid’s perspective, nobody looked like they were going to spit on you, and it didn’t look like people were so mistrusting, resentful, or closed off to others. It makes me wonder what happened.

My family/childhood photos go back quite a bit further -- the 60's.

I note we were actually probably a lot poorer than it felt at the time -- never really lacked for anything we needed mind you, just... well compared to [spoiled rotten?] kids these days we didn't have much -- a lot SIMPLER era; I suppose especially for us since we grew up in a rural countryside, so even the "hippie" freak stuff of the 60's didn't affect us much (more like some "weirdness" on TV -- relatively distant -- and more than slightly unreal or "surreal").

-- I actually think that last point was a BIG part of it... life moved slower -- or at least it certainly FELT that way -- and especially WITHOUT the whole 24x7 "sensationalist" news channels... well, I guess the world seemed "bigger"... shit that happened in big cities (especially ones in other states) was sooooo far away. Part of that of course is that it was the perspective of a child... but not ALL of it because frankly people DIDN'T travel as much; jet airplanes were for the "jet set" (rich people and/or high-powered business executives), the majority of the population had never been on a jet plane, and most probably never expected to, certainly not to the point that it would be taken for granted or to seem common/mundane. Especially not "frequent" flights overseas and such.

Oh, and to your point about "piercings" and stuff -- I can recall sometime in middle school (probably like 7th or 8th grade) there was some film or something in a "social studies" class, showing various tribal people with bone-piercings (through nose, ears, whatever) -- and everyone laughing at how ridiculous all of that looked. The teacher jokingly made a prediction: that by the time we were adults, such things would be "normal" -- and that BOYS as well as girls would be getting all kinds of stuff "pierced" just like the people the film -- we thought he was absolutely NUTS, I mean NO WAY would any GUY ever pierce his ears, much less his NOSE!

Epilogue to that: I ran into that exact teacher (long since retired) just a few years back and asked him how in the heck he knew; because his prediction was so spot on -- he said he didn't "know" and really wasn't trying to make a prediction; he THOUGHT he was pulling our legs, and just making an absurd statement to shock us, get us to laugh. (He was actually a decent teacher, everybody liked him, and he DID actually make you think about things... sometimes in quirky ways.)

Can confirm. I remember when I was in high school about 10-15 years ago you didn't see revealing clothing like yoga pants worn in public. Hell, not even skin tight jeans were a thing back then. Now every basic bitch is wearing shit like that. Yoga pants with uncovered butt on full display, shirts either too tight or too loose with tits almost falling out, stockings that you would expect to only see on a lingerie model... All worn publicly with zero shame...

Not that I'm complaining really. All of this actually revealed to me that these hoes aren't marriage material anyway.

Personally I don't see the point of photos.

The past is gone forever. Why hold onto something that doesn't exist? They aren't those people anymore - we are different people everyday. We dont step in the same river twice, so why go back to cross it?

I was only seven 20 years ago, I don’t really remember much about the way people dressed.

Plus i grew up in an inner city shithole, so I probably repressed most of it.

I just remember boomboxes and tracksuits, but blacks today still do the same shit, so I don’t think it changed with the times.

Back in the day me and my cousins would go cruise the strip in Panama City on Friday nights, since we lived in relatively close proximity. People weren't dressed in Sunday clothes, but they would be clean and presentable. Even the groups doing the whole punk rock thing.

Most of the locals actually worked during spring break, with reasonable amounts of joining in. But the spring break atmosphere has changed too. Maybe the worst thing that happened back in the day was that someone set a hotel room on fire when they dropped a joint on the floor. Occasionally someone would jump off one of the hotel balconies while high maybe.

Now it's all rapes, robberies, or murders.

Back in the day, you also didn't want to smoke around a girls hair, either. Most of the girls seemed like they dipped their hair in a vat of Aqua Net every morning. I mean you'd make out with a girl and her hair felt like concrete. No running your fingers through that.

I assume nothing about their attitudes has changed back then, but at least they didn’t look like pure evil like they do now.

Shit like social media and instant gratification happened. If you are out on the strip competing with a few other girls from your group, you have to differentiate in many ways. Having a cloud of guys already hanging around trying to get into her pants also limited the amount of attention she could get. Even a thirsty guy would see a crowd like that and decide to head out instead.

So now there's Instagram where an average girl can flash some ass to guys across the world and attract a sizeable following who shower her with gifts and attention.

So again, out on the strip you could observe girls and how they acted. She's being a bitch 9/10 of the time? Not thanks, let's cruise down to the Miracle Strip and see what's going on down there. That's kind of another point is that many guys didn't assume that women were miraculous beings who did no wrong.

So yeah, the culture has changed.
