Do you think that there's massive roid use that we don't really know about? I know that muscle size and muscle strength are not completely related (most of bodybuilder's muscle mass is glycogen stores) and that it's possible to build muscle mass slightly easier through specific exercises and diet if that's what you're aiming for. But I know plenty of guys who go to the gym every day and aren't jacked. They're above-average muscleness obviously but they don't have six-packs or huge arms. And they've been lifting nearly every day for years. What's up with that?

I don't have a great understanding of all this, but how big these guys muscles are is strange. They can't spend much more time in the gym than those friends of mine do - otherwise they'd have no time for anything else. And exhaustion limits how much workout you can do anyway. So either they do very different sets and reps (I think very low reps of very high weights builds muscle mass the most), they eat a very different diet (high carbs after exercises causes muscles to absorb sugar and swell up with the glycogen, low body fat makes muscles look more defined, but slightly higher fat makes them look bigger), or they're on steroids. I think genetics plays a big part too in fairness, I can do home workouts for 20 mins a day and after a few weeks I've got visible abs. I've always been too lazy to carry on past that point though. While these guys go every day for over a year and still have flat stomachs.

But I'm just wondering if there's some kind of great roid "epidemic" going on that isn't in the open (obviously). I wouldn't fuck my hormones up just to look better for women though, screw that. Especially considering most steroids need to be shot up - double screw that. But I know that a lot of guys happily would do anything for pussy.

The way standards for men have so rapidly shot up and suddenly nearly all male celebrities are ripped as fuck, it's uncanny and weird. Especially whilst pretty much the opposite is happening to women, men's standards for them are lowering since so many are fat and there's nowhere near enough semi-fit pre-wall women to go round. Even fit healthy younger men often have to go for fatter or older women.

They try pretty hard, go a lot. I think they're doing the wrong kind of exercise (too many reps, not enough weight) or their genetics are not responsive to exercise (about 20% of people get no real benefit from exercise due to certain genes).

All these male celebrities suddenly getting ripped too, too dramatically and/or too quickly to be entirely natural I'd think. Obviously steroids still require you to exercise, but they make the gains much bigger per unit of exercise you do. It's very odd. I've got nothing against people using roids as long as it isn't for cheating at a competition and they do it relatively safely (the same common-sense rules apply as for recreational drugs). But I wouldn't do it myself, not worth it when the only benefit is looking better. For a male celebrity, that looking better could be the difference between job and no job - so it's different for them.

The irony is that actual athletes rarely look like the standards for men. You could do real sports, either team or individual and unless you are doing serious physique work you will not achieve the look. And surprisingly the guys who do all the physique work are almost always poor athletes. Body builders never take their size and muscles and transfer it to another sport. Not Football, Rugby, Boxing, MMA, or anything. They workout for looks and not for performance. If you work out for performance you will not achieve the look. Michael Shermer was on Joe Rogan a while ago and he mentioned that back in the day he met a pro body builder back when it became a thing and they were going to go on a bike ride that would involve a hill climb. Body Building being a very novel thing they assumed the dude would be some super athlete and were shocked to see that he was unable to do it.

They have to do these long and grueling workouts where they take their muscles to absolute failure (which an athlete you should never do) and then rest the soreness off, eat huge amounts of protein and take drugs which help them recover and grow and also work harder in that phase of exhaustion.

Body Building is a very particular type of exercise, for some reason its the most popular style of working out when people go to a gym (long sessions, machine work, single joint movements, work to failure or high reps). These guys do a shitload of work to have an impressive looking body but they are usually never as strong or as athletic as a guy who trains in strength and athleticism.

Thinking they'll benefit from it is what makes average guys support it. But it doesn't benefit them, as we know very well. The average guy gets way less sex now than his grandfather did back in the day. Maybe he gets more sexual partners but they're only for short duration and there's huge "dry patches" in between - often many months or even years. I would argue against even the 20% bit. I think it's way more like <10% of guys who regularly get casual sex IME. People in relationships have the most sex, and many girls aren't after relationships anymore - not until the wall is approaching and they're alpha widows who no longer find a guy attractive unless he chokes her and has an 8-pack (exaggeration but you get my point).

This does not benefit men, it benefits a tiny group of men - who get to fuck a lot more women than they otherwise could have but still don't necessarily have more sex in total. It doesn't affect the tiny group who are mgtow or just DGAF (ahhhh, ain't that nice to be detached). And it hurts all other men. It also isn't good for women and makes them more miserable in the long run. The 5-8/10 girls get one or two "tastes" (no pun intended) of super-alpha 9/10 male model cock when they're young and hot, then are dissatisfied for the rest of their lives.

I wish for the end of marriage, but I strongly do not like this extreme promiscuous hypergamy either.
