Evolutionary instinct. Not all men have it but as long as enough of them have it this preserves enough women through mass-kill events (normal in nature) so the species continues (need women for pregnancies). At a conscious level most men would have no idea why/how this happens. If asked and pushed they might say they have no idea (unlikely) or just make up a reason.

They're not. They're very unhappy with being single. They need the emotional validation of having an actual boyfriend or husband, they need the social status and feel hurt in a dire way if either are lacking, and they certainly need a man's resources to have any rest time at all and one of those times is for making babies.

A real solid question is:

with governments doing more harm and more betrayal than wives (or girlfriends), and in fact the source of damage from divorce-betrayal by wives (courts for alimony) how is it that a majority of men feel their purpose in life is directly attached to their loyalty to such betrayers, such governments?

Makes sense evolution wise to protect women who are the limit in factor in reproduction. For the survival of the species it is better to expend the male than the female.

However today's society is so safe there's no need to protect them, there's the police to protect her, there's her employer to provide for her. And with 7 billion humans we're not near extinction.

Well, you answered your own question; Men want a purpose in life. Serving a woman is one of those things that can be a purpose in life. Not many can live in the ”desert of the real”, or in ”the desert of the absurd” - as Camus would put it. It takes a special brand of man, who can forge a meaning by himself. Isn't this partially what we are doing here as MGTOW's?

I'm supposed to serve her, court her, etc., and when she's satisfied, I get the honor & privilege to ask her to marry me... and if she says, "yes," I've been blessed.

I work a liberal (socialised) private health care racket dispensing health care goods. I'm not a M. D professional by any means, more or less a retail assistant that handles medical data and is basically a fluffer for the economic growth of the franchise company. All the vagina owners I work alongside are adverse to any physical tasks and expect males to do anything physically related. From carrying advertisement boards in sub zero temperatures to the road side day & night or emptying bins every evening, it's always the guys who are lumped with the chores. Really males work harder here for less, and management are ignorant of the fact.

Men have very little to rally behind in existential terms. The idea of a woman is what most men fall in love with, not actual women (as anyone who has swallowed the red pill will agree).

The romantics have painted women as virtuous since (probably before) the days of courtly love. As such, women were placed on a pedestal.

Men thought that "virtus" (masculine virtue) was wrapped up in women somehow - that women were worth protecting. Which tickles the primitive brain's natural predilections (libido, in other words). The instinct to fuck drives the same instinct to protect women, and that gets expressed in society.

Now, there's not too much that satisfies the libido and the pursuit of greatness - to find harmony with the body and the higher cognitive functions can be difficult (e.g. absurdist philosophy).

So it's easy for a man to make a woman his purpose, and feel that it's right (without giving it much critical and deep thought).

Alternative "immortality projects" (as Ernest Becker would call fucking for genetic legacy) are difficult to conceptualize, and difficult to just feel in the way that an orgasm feels good.

It's easy, and the path of least mental resistance. Actually thinking of a higher purpose, and milking satisfaction from the pursuit of higher goals, is heavy mental lifting... and "spiritually" difficult. As Nietzsche says of free spirits - they become free spirits through a great separation [from society at large, and social values].

Ghosting, being a monk, being rejected, even having your heart broken - can be sufficient conditions for a great separation from societal values.

...Then, after being torn (or tearing away) from society, you can make new values.

And thus, you can serve new masters, new values, new purposes. Only then can a man create a new method of navigation. Otherwise he will be stuck with the moral compass that was given to him.
