They've been made to believe that a large part of their value was based on how much women specifically valued him. Therefore, not being able to keep a woman's interest for years and decades chipped away at his self-confidence, to the point that he's perfectly willing to grovel at the feet of women to have his most basic sense of self-worth fulfilled.
Just another poor schmuck, in a society filled nearly entirely with other schmucks.

We're a generation of men raised by women, it's unfortunate that perceptions of masculinity are so intimately tied to female approval.
Esther Vilar puts it quite concisely:
"If praise is applied in the correct dosage a woman will never need to scold. Any man who is accustomed to a regular and conditional dosage of praise will interpret its absence as displeasure."
In the absence of a positive male identity, this is what we're left with.
The only benefit to the individual is that the bar of not being a schmuck is set remarkably low, but society suffers as a result.

The fucked up part about waking up is when another scmuck gets the girl, you almost feel sorry for him. Almost. It is the average behavior of the group of schmucks that allows women to get away with this shit in the first place. It disgusts me more because i had to be like that to realize what was going on and learn from the mistakes. That, I suppose, is the difference. These other men, they just keep making the same mistakes over and over and hamstering rationalizations, as if the hamster syndrom is contagious.
