I guess I should preface this by saying this is my first reddit post. In a nutshell, I'm asking about what people think the driving force behind feminism/women's equality is. I genuinely can't figure it out. I'm not necessarily a MGTOW, but I thought this would be a good place to ask the question. Anyway, this is my somewhat long post:

Well, we’re definitely living in a very politically correct culture. And one of the big no-no’s is saying anything negative about women. That’s undeniable. Case-in-point: Today, Chris Paul, the Clippers point guard, was miffed about a bad call, which was made by a woman referee. After the game, he suggested that “Maybe this profession (ie being an NBA ref) is not right for her.” Now, some people were saying that he wasn’t being anti-woman, and that he’s not calling her out for her gender. And true, he doesn’t directly say anything about her gender being the cause of her poor officiating. I personally believe, however, that it actually was a gender-based comment, and he probably would not have said that about a male ref. I also believe that maybe he’s right: female refs are out of their league in the NBA. But regardless, his comments have literally overtaken the sports media today. There’s a general sense of outrage over his possibly misogynistic comment. The NBA has even issued statements saying they do not condone his words. It was a pretty big deal, and the public, or at least the media, has been firmly anti-Chris Paul. He broke the rule of never saying anything negative about the female gender.

Another case in point: on facebook, I have a couple of female friends who are feminists. They’re constantly outraged, constantly posting links to feminists websites and articles. One of their favorite things to do is to diss white men. I even remember one girl literally posting that she “hates white men.” A few people liked her comment, no one complained about it. But if I were to create some post about hating white women, I’d be taken to task by all my facebook friends and all their friends. Hell, my employer would somehow find out, I’d bet, and fire me for my mysoginy. So certainly we live in a culture where the female gender can get away with a lot without being criticized.

What I’m really interested in, though, is where exactly this politically-correct-towards women mindset—this drive for women to achieve “equality”—has come from. I highly doubt the movement is a result of strong women standing up for their rights. When in history have women, as a group, effected any sort of major change? Never, as far as I know. And feminists tend to be both illogical and annoying. They tend to repulse men rather than convince men that women deserve equal rights, and their arguments are more emotion than reason.

So men themselves must have been the force behind this change in our culture’s mindset, since women tend to be incapable of effecting much change. After all, men still pretty much hold all the major positions of power in the world, whether it’s in politics, business, arts, science, athletics, philosophy, religion, etc. But what would be the motivation for men to deliberately create this change? Why would they go out of their way to care about female equality? Female equality is really not of much benefit to men, as far as I can tell. And usually, when men champion some cause, it is for the men’s own benefit. Let’s just be honest about that. So things aren’t adding up to me. Why would men deliberately work to create a culture where women are completely above reproach within mainstream media/society? I guess there are some male “advocates” out there who genuinely have convinced themselves they care about female equality, but these types of guys are usually lame-asses, let’s just be honest. They’re not the ones in power.

Where has our political correctness about women come from, then? Is there some secretive, possibly nefarious source of this change? Certainly women are happy to give themselves credit for the change, but it’s simply not them who have effected it. Something quite odd is going on here. I just have a bad feeling about it. Aaron Russo did mention the Rockafellers claimed they were the ones who funded the women’s lib movement. And the Rockafellers said they did it for two reasons: to be able to levy taxes on the women (who now work) and to break up the nuclear family (because the man has become somewhat emasculated by the political-correctness). And once the family unit is broken up, children start to look towards the State as their ultimate source of guidance. Is there some truth to what Aaron Russo was saying? I also heard that the CIA funded some important women’s lib magazine during the 1960’s. Does the CIA really give a damn about women’s equality? Was the CIA so morally outraged by the oppression of women that they just had to fund this magazine? Doubtful. So, yeah, something weird is going on here, but I can’t put my finger on it.

I’m not really interested in whether women’s equality is important or unimportant, nor am I really interested in debating whether feminism is a good or bad thing. I’m just interested in understanding the force behind the change in our culture’s mindset. Where did that force come from? Can anyone enlighten me?
