I'm no expert on economics but from what I've read, it was about growing the economy. Modern economy has been trying to rely on continuous growth every year. One way of growing the economy is to increase the number of consumers. How to do that? Easy, make women work too and get salaries, now you suddenly have twice as many consumers.

It didn't start that way, but they caught on. Just look how Anita sarkeesian and others are speaking at the UN and getting political representation all over. Useful idiots.

Think about it like this. In a society where families are run by patriarch's, you only need to convince 1 person per family that things need to change. In our current society, every individual has to come to this conclusion. much less social cohesion and resistance to tyranny.
