So, how much fighting did European Queens engage in? How much exposure did they have to the the brutality of war? Was there a 'black princess', like the the Black Prince, leading troops around somewhere? No. It has been speculated that one reason the cold war didn't become a hot one is that the USSR's leaders of the time (Kruschev, Brezhnev, etc.) were veterans of the "Great Patriotic War". Because they had no personal exposure to it, Queens had a much less visceral understanding of what they were doing when they made war.

But a Queen, safely ensconced in her court? What does she know of war? Not so much, I should think.

Put another way: Female rulers more likely to be OK with disposing of ... disposable men

I thought it was well known that women in power are much more violent than men because they have more to prove. They maybe seen as weak if they show any leniency.
