I understand where you're coming from. But living frugal is a joke. You have to live for now just as much as you live for tomorrow. I can understand if you're broke and don't make good money but if you do, WHY live on beans and rice every day?

Lemme tell you a story about a coworker. He worked 7 days a week, ten hours a day for years upon ends. The guy made over 250-280K per year not to mention massive retirement hours for his pension. He would take regular vacations but not really enough in my opinion. The guy had awesome savings, lived frugal, pension was massive along with his 401k. He dropped dead at 53 and never enjoyed the fruits of his labor. Fucking waste.

His death really effected me and made me rethink my life. Do I really want to make 200K this year? Or would I rather make 110K, take a shitload of time off going on vacations and loving life? Yeah, I'd rather live a good life. Now I'm not saying you can't have both enjoyed your life and save, it's very possible. But to rathole all your money, live off beans and rice in a studio apartment because you want a rental, I think that's non sense.

Life is a balance, live for today and tomorrow. The people over in /r/frugal bother me greatly now. "I have a million dollars saved up, but I eat top ramen every night". Yeah that's a good way to live.

Cash is resistant to (il)legal proceedings and garnishments.

"If it's on paper, they'll take 'er" -- including property and other assets. Roll it all into a LLC with a solid nominee.

Id buy a few gold bars too if i were you. While I admire your achievement (awesome), bankers and governments will steal your wealth at every opportunity. read zerohedge.com for starters. For one thing, laws were changed about a year ago that allows banks to 'own' your money when you lodge it with them. They are free to play with it on the markets as they choose.

Then there's inflation...I read that if inflation is at 5%, in 10 years the buying power of your money will be at half the value it was. Im not trying to be negative, I hope you continue to kick arse, and get financially free as young as you can.

Renting is pretty awesome, I'm my bp days I thought buying a house would bring Ms Wrong into my life so I got a nice little $150K house about 10 minutes away from my city center. MGTOW happened and I went through some major life changes. I realized that the girls i was trying to impress saw me as an eventual plan b once Chad got done with them.

I turned the house into a rental and moved back in with my parents. Now it profits $300 a month and I should have it paid off by the time I'm 30-35, depending on how aggressive I fund other investments over the next 5-10 years. Plus it has appreciated like crazy and is now worth around $225-250K

The problem I'm having here is cash itself is high-risk and one currency can blink out of existence or be rapidly devalued vs another currency you need and fast.

It becomes absurd to have piles of cash each in different currencies, partly because it's easy to steal, burn or confiscate at borders, also because if one goes bust that entire pile is... worth zero. If electronic banking is compromised, which happens on the small scale frequently, this means non-cash, electronic "money" is worthless too, even if only part-time, but if that time is precisely the only time you need it right-fucking-now you are pooched.

Your labor is valuable to society, the 'socially acceptable' narrative will be for your labor to be cheap. People will try to under pay you. People will try to take the fruits of your labor by selling you over priced consumer products that you dont need. People will waste your time will mind numbing-time wasting 'entertainment' between shifts, rather than with Art that might make you think about your exploitation. You will be shamed into risking more than half your labor to forced subsidization of a single ex friend, while being forced to subsidize the poor and corpoate elite en mass as a baseline.

Actually the KEY thing that everyone is attempting to do these days is to get people to unnecessarily indenture themselves via a host of debts, contracts and regular payments.

Everything... and I do mean everything is based on trying to get people to spend more (through THEIR firm/program/plan/system) and then to SKIM a certain % off of it -- ideally they prefer you to sign some multi-year contract, but bar that they will attempt any/all other tricks, including tempting you with "rewards" (cash back, prizes, etc), which of course in one way or another just gets added to the cost of everything you buy, but which the ignorant don't seem to comprehend; and if the rewards thing doesn't work, well then encouraging you to arrange your life so that you become not only habituated to using their product/service, but that you become dependent upon it.

Also... there is a problem with being TOO LIQUID, especially in the form of currency/cash; the value of which can an DOES go through extremes every now and then. (And we're set for a doozy one of these days.)
