I have a wife .... she has a friend .. that has a husband ..... who is a dick.

now hey, I am not here to judge but the guy is worthless, a bum, abusive, just real trash. through and through. hasn't worked in forever.

so he has cheated on her .... again, after giving her a STD from another affair. So at this point, I ask "why do you talk to her?" ... wife gives excuses ... I say "she likes it. she loves being the victim. she found the perfect guy to make her a victim .. and she found the perfect little set of friends to comfort her and help her live out her lifetime movie live action drama."

wife scoffs. I ask "you like being part of her problem? I wouldn't even be talking to this person anymore after telling them the first time to get out no matter what the costs."

wife goes "what costs?"

I say "well ... he doesn't have a job. she is the bread winner ...she has gotten him accustomed to a certain lifestyle . surely she will be paying alimony."

Her ... "no she won't. why would she."

Me ... "roles reversed, he is taking half her shit and monthly installments. it's only fair he get the same treatment. equality and all".

Her ... "that's not fair"

me ... "you have a lot of divorced women to make calls to and explain 'fair' to"

Well, let's not pretend men are never guilty of doing the same. People empathise with others who are like them, gender being one possible factor in this.

Two things:

She claims the usual "Not happy, don't love him any more. We live separate lives." She moved out and within days had moved in with another guy. My wife is trying to justify to me "No, she never cheated. Only hooked up with this guy after she split from her partner." - You haven't given much information here, but from what you wrote it's entirely possible that she didn't have sex with him before leaving her husband and therefore in her and your wife's mind didn't cheat on him, although in reality she would still be guilty of an emotional affair. When older women have affairs it's usually more about companionship than sex, whereas with men sex tends to be a big part, so this may well be the distinction in your wife's mind. It's not necessarily any better objectively (just different) but from a female perspective it often is, because to women a man having a sexual affair while married is a scumbag who can't keep it in his pants and a woman having an emotional affair while married is sympathetic because she had no control over it.

"The husband was caught having an affair. We didn't know he was cheating," - If he was having an affair, he was cheating, no? Unless you mean you didn't know until you found out, which goes without saying.

One the other hand, yeah I agree with what you're saying in general. It does seem that men get a lot less sympathy for cheating in an unhappy marriage than women do in the same situation which sucks.

I don't plan on not doing anything to bring in income but now that he is working I have started to work on my homemaker skills and self improvement as well. I'm not worried we have been together 10 years and know each other 17. We communicate what most people would keep secret from their spouses , have our own hobbies and both value alone time. But it has been really nice him coming home and spending time with me vs when the reverse I was coming home and wanted to sleep. He is also aware that we have to go out and do things as he was on this side and knows how it goes being at home. He will do a great job out there and I am proud of him - he is already in line for promoting and he's not even two months in.
