Due to free speech, the police can't do anything to you, but everyone else can.

If you ruffle some blue and pink SJW feathers, what they will do is to call your work and basically say that you have said something which isn't considered PC and so, people (SJWs) are angry.

Your work place will see this and think that you're a liability and they will just get rid of you.

This is sick and twisted, but this is the world we live in now.

The tides are changing though, SJWs aren't getting hired by companies because the companies see that these people are inflammatory and this puts the company in danger of being labelled as an -ist or a -phobe.

Companies are just doing their thing. Most of them don't have an agenda, they just don't want any trouble. Business is hard enough as it is. So if an employee said something that is considered a no-no in modern society, and it became a widely public knowledge, company may want to show that they don't endorse this sort of behavior. Otherwise it could cost them reputation, clients, sponsors, etc. You can get in trouble very easily nowadays, and it's an unfortunate reality, but outlawing people getting fired won't solve anything. They'll get fired anyway, but for some made up reason. Unfortunately the problem is bigger, it's that the whole society needs to unlearn being sensitive about non-issues.

I wouldn't like it if an employee of mine publicy said something about another employee, threatened someone, etc. Once people found out it would hurt my business so I would rather fire them than lose my business. These issues are never black and white and making something like this illegal would solve nothing, probably only make matters worse. I believe in free speech, but subjects like this are always complicated and should be dealt with on a case to case basis.

Shit, everything you do online that doesn't directly effect your work performance should be illegal.

A few examples come to mind. Years ago a teacher was fired for posting a video of herself dancing provocatively on a bar on her personal Facebook page and was fired for it.

The guy who had to sell his brewery and move out of town because of wrong think opinions on his personal Facebook.

The guy that got fired for posting a meme about shitting on company time.

And the other side of the fence in which countless celebrities and other famous folk openly insult fans and other public figures without a single bit of repercussion to their livelihood. (Unless they're Christians. Good luck getting work as an open Christian in Hollywood.)

So, I'll sign that shit.

I'm not a libertarian anymore due to issues like this. Huddling around poor and without access to commerce or communications doesn't feel any better if you can say "at least no one told a private company what to do".

Here's what I propose. You should be able to sue those employers for damages if they cannot prove that you hurt them in any way. It is very rare that a company sees actual ramifications because a blue hair fatty sent an email to another corporate SJW. No one is boycotting an industrial supplier because an employee revealed his power level in a saturday night rant on 4chan or Zuckbook.

The court should give more weight to the employees actual losses as a percentage of their income than the company's ethereal claim that maybe blue haired fatties who don't buy their product and will forget by next week might hurt their sales by 0.001%. In that case, they should owe the employee significant damages.

As the left loves to say...just cause you're free to fire them that doesn't mean there aren't consequences.

Hmm the capitalist in me says companies can fire you for any reason anytime they want. You aren't entitled to a job nor does a company have to cater to you. Likewise you should be able to quit for any reason as well even with no notice. Laws should primarily be used to protect individual rights not to ensure employment.

I don’t understand how this ever happened.

For example, the laws clearly state you can’t discriminate against people because of xyz. So firing someone based on sexual orientation is not allowed. But you have a right to personally discriminate against others (ie, I don’t like whites is perfectly legal)

The laws specifically state we have “freedom of speech” and though certain things like the theater fire are prohibited, we have a pretty open policy on freedom of speech. In fact, you can say just about anything you like and it’s not a crime. (Most cases) But when it comes to your employer, he can fire you. How does this happen? Why wouldn’t discrimination apply in the same way freedom of speech is applied or vice versa. Why wouldn’t “you have freedom of speech” automatically mean you can’t be fired? That’s what it means for discrimination.
