Man I wish my dad were like that.

He is not a bad guy, he does love me and support our family and was always present.

But neither him or my mom (lul) ever encouraged me or supported me on anything. Career choices, hobbies, etc... always being judged by their "superior elder experience". It's not that I don't listen, it's just that people are different and they don't seem to get it.

But I guess it could be worse. At least I learnt how to be independent.

I think this idea of how awesome dad's are is wrong. There are lots of people whose dad's were shitty and even abusive. Not my situation, I love both my parents, but I know for a fact some men are just as shiity of a parent like females are

Today is my dads birthday, first since he passed last fall. My dad wasnt awesome but he was pretty cool. Of course we had great times and hard times. Miss his ball busting. Thx pops.

Being a dad isn't easy. You arrive home from a hard day at work, exhausted, and can barely think straight. You have a bitch of a wife whose whining and nagging often keeps you tense.

That said, I do try to be the best dad I can. I support their hobbies and life choices, even when I don't agree with them, though I do demand excellence. And I try to spend as much time with them as I can - including gaming with them from the PSP through to the PS4 era.

Almost all of the men I know try their best, though some are clearly better parents than others. And yeah, in this day and age, dads are mostly treated as the butt of jokes and don't get nearly enough credit.

I know alot of people had bad dads, and Im sorry for you. My dad was/is fantastic, and there is no living person I respect more then him. I'm infinitely grateful that when my mom divorced my dad that he got a good lawyer and fought hard to keep me, and succeeded. Ill always remember how dad tried to keep all the nastiness of the divorce away from me, and he wouldn't badmouth mom in front of me. The same can't be said for mom. But in the end, I was very lucky (compared to many men nowadays) that my father was present during my formative years.

Wish my dad had been like that more often, but he wanted to keep my volatile mother happy so he often sided with her when she wanted to take things away from me, stop me from doing what I wanted to do, etc. My mother wanted to teach my sister she didn't have to respect men so she was allowed to dump on me and ignore my dad whenever she wanted to. It was lousy but I eventually got away.

I'm pretty sure there are many amazing dads out there supporting their sons even when playing computer games but this was not my case when growing up, at all, to the point I couldn't even play with my friends online. Hell my dad still trashes me for playing computer games as a goddamn hobby to this day, so yeah.

I'm lucky to be blessed with two amazing parents.

It feels like my mom is the last of her kind. If most women were like her, there'd be no need for MGTOW.
