At the beginning of our 5-year relationship, he was a LVM. A lot of ego, no empathy whatsoever, jealous, had anger issues, judgmental and made me feel like shit. But we were both young and much in love so we tried to make things work. It took years of communicating better, expressing our feelings, making compromises and trying to improve for the other, but we really grew up to be better people. He changed A LOT and became an exceptional man: caring, giving me his unconditional love, trusting, honest, generous, a great support. He still had a temper but he worked on it. He really became a beautiful human. We did long distance for more than two years and he worked very long hours, including during the weekends, and it put some distance between us. We could barely communicate. I felt so distant it was like I had my regular life without him and then a parallel universe where I was with him for a week every three months. I fell out of love. I hated myself for it. I felt unworthy of his unconditional love and I felt guilty for it. It took me a lot of failed attempts to reconnect and a year of trying to bring the passion back before I gave up and broke up with him. It's been 4 months and I have second thoughts. Did I make the right choice? We've worked so hard to become the people we are now, to get along, to have such a beautiful connection and so much respect for each other, and I just left ? I know he found a new girlfriend and it broke my heart, but I can't blame him for trying to move on. But I know he's a good man, and I'm upset that someone else is going to enjoy the new, improved version of him while I struggled for years during the process of him becoming a HVM. He said it himself: "when you met me I was a boy, and you made me a man". Did I make a terrible mistake?
