I hate when they do that. I can’t remember the situations but men have “assigned” me to others and activities in the past too. Yikes, can’t dine alone with a woman even for her literal job? He should have ASKED you! What if you didn’t want her there? “Hey I can’t make it now. Monica is available- want me to ask her if she can go?”

Maybe he thought about it afterwards and found it awkward if you brought it up or he brought it up. I wouldn't take it personally, the implications make it awkward and may not have thought about it until afterwards. I don't think it has much to do with your looks or you, yourself
