Sorry if this is not supposed to be here or if it's repost, but even though I don't usually like dating advice books, I sometimes like listening to audiobooks like this when I'm doing my chores or flying and now I need something new and fun to listen, so I was thinking that'd be fun to have a list of books/audiobooks that apply the things we talk about here and that we think work.
From my part I have two suggestions:
- "He's just not that into you" - yes, sometimes the guy comes out as condescending and some parts are a bit cringy and even outdated (this was written when answering machines still existed, texting and social media wasn't a thing at least among adults) but I agree with most of it. It spares you wasting time in relationships that won't go nowhere. Basically, if he's not asking you out on dates, pushing for a relationship, showing interest, etc "he's just not that into you" and that's it. And even though there could be exceptions to the rule you shouldn't place your bets on the probability of being an exception. I like that this book is not about how to please men and be more "dateable" but instead how to weed out people that will only make you waste your time or hurt you. Also keep in mind that the demographic of this book is women who want a serious relationship/eventually marry, however I think most of it can apply to most women. The whole book are example of real situations that they then give their imput on. Fun to listen/read.
- "Men Don't Love Women Like You!: The Brutal Truth About Dating, Relationships, and How to Go from Placeholder to Game Changer " - Such as the previous book there are things I might not agree fully or find a bit cringy but I also agree with many of the principles. Also bear in mind that this book was written in mind with a specific demographic: black women in the US. It's like a more modern and urban version of Steve Harvey's books I think and with less nonsense. However, I think that many of what he says can apply to most women. I think many times we approach men the way we'd like to be approached but it doesn't always work. It also says we shouldn't be out there pursuing men. His style is a bit aggressive and sometimes almost rude, but I generally liked his non sense approach.
Any other suggestions?
