What it means is that you haven't ever emotionally matured. Damn near every girl starts out pining for the hot jock at her school, the lead singer, or the hot at the moment actor. Most of them never get near that guy. Many of the ones that do get with him, end up disappointed when they realize that they were just a momentary thing for him. Perhaps he settles down with one once he has had his fun, which mostly won't be for a long while.

It hit me in this post how women are constantly bandying on about "settling". I've never heard a man talk about this. Let's say that I make a decent living and I want to buy either a Lamborghini, Vector W2 Twin turbo, or a Lotus. Shit, they're out of my price range although I keep going to the dealership and sitting in the floor models. OK, I guess I'll look at getting a Porsch 911. Shit, still pricey no matter how much I tell the seller that I deserve that car. Don't they see how empowered I am? Eventually I buy a reasonably priced Volkswagen. Kidding aside, this scenario is preposterous. I would happily buy the car I could afford in my income / price range and I wouldn't be beating myself up that I "settled" on that car. The only people I have ever heard talk about settling in a pejorative way are women. They throw it around as though it's an absolute insult. Meanwhile, I'm perfectly happy living below my means, decent house, workshop, and decent Volvo that is paid off.

No, it means you're an idiot. If you're single and looking, then by definition, you're available. And if you've been looking for 15+ years and still haven't found anyone, then it's *you*. You might want the unavailable guy for any of a number of reasons: he's hot, rich, tall, etc. Or maybe you get off on guys that don't care about you. Or you like married men. Whatever the reason you like these guys, the first step is to acknowledge *they don't like you*. So you have two options: either figure out how to be attracted to the guys that do like you, or figure out how to change yourself to be the type of woman the unavailable guys like (and whether you're okay with those changes).

This is what I never figure out about women. Every person, man and woman alike, has fantasies about their perfect partner. But guys either realize it's just a fantasy that will never happen, and focus on the girls they can attract, or decide to do the hard work of becoming the type of guy those girls go for. Women think a third option exists: keep looking, and looking, and looking, all the time bitching about how hard dating is, never once acknowledging that actually getting of your ass and improving yourself is infinitely harder.

And after 15 years of failure, double down on the failed approach, seeking reassurance from other women that indeed, dating is "so hard" and finding a good man is "so hard" but you should keep going and never change your approach.
