They've tried this so many times. No one cares that much about girl pirates. Both men and women like sexy, action pirates, to seduce / kidnap the wench so the hero has something to do.

No one cares about girl pirate captains. They've tried it, and no one gives a shit. Not enough to franchise. No little girls will be inspired to....what...become pirates?

You want to do a woman movie like Hidden Figures? Great. People can like that.

You want to do something about Jane Goodall? Great. People can like that.

People like hero movies / villain movies because it's about someone (a man) who is fucking disposable achieving great things. So few men do because no one gives a fuck about men.

So seeing a man achieve greatness is a rarity.

Seeing the most privileged gender on the planet being a hero? Meh. You have to come up with something new and fresh, like Ripley in Alien. And notice, she doesn't do girl shit the entire time. She just happens to be a woman. That's it. Nothing feminist. She was basically acting as a man.

And she was the protagonist, she was doing something realistic, which is running away. It was survival horror. You can do survival horror with women. Blair Witch, Alien, most horror movies are based on this with women protagonists. People can understand women surviving and running away from things.

Oceans 8 was stupid because it's so out of reality. It is not at all what women do. individual women may plot their way to fuck people in revenge, but adventure heists aren't really their thing.

So pirates? Raiding ports to steal and drink up me hearties?

Doesn't really work.

But sure, make a movie that's pretty much guaranteed dead on arrival for being too fictional.

Now you can do this in a comedy. Where Ghostbusters 2016 fucked up was taking an existing property in the wrong place / wrong time in history.

You can do comedic movies involving women, but you have to do it in the correct way. Much like romantic comedy movies. Women can shine in them (anyone can) provided you write it correctly.

But feminists don't want that. Feminists don't live in reality. They think comedy is "bad" which makes sense as they don't possess a sense of humor anyway.

I believe that they have forgotten why the Pirates movies were successful. There were two main traits about the Jack Sparrow character :

He was definitely NOT politically correct!
The movies were entertaining and FUN.

Margot Robbie might be able to do a good effort on item #2 - she's a decent actress. In this current climate the movie will likely be an abject failure on item #1. There will be so many different factions that they will be afraid of offending that it will suck the life and spark from the movie.

And I'm sure Rotten Tomatoes probably has a 100% critics score for it already. ;-)

Let them waste money. The only thing we can do is to not watch it, and advice everyone insterested in our opinion that it is going to be trash. Eventually, this is a self-correcting situation. I am getting into korean movies lately anyway, and they are easily better than hollywood's on average. Train to Busan and parasite are just the first movies i can suggest on the spot, but there are plenty.
