Sigh. They’re at it again, aren’t they? This movie was aggressively marketed towards women.

As a guy I got the vibe that I wasn’t welcome and that this movie is more for women and girls, as they’re the TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC.

So I’m not going to go watch it. It’s that simple. That isn’t sexism, that’s preference.

Its actually a pretty good movie. But you're right the marketing had a very anti-man vibe even though the film itself doesnt really have that message.

[–]UnLiberal040 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

The sad thing is, its already a cartoon.

[–]CommitXylenePerverts53 points54 points  (1 child) | Copy

When have I heard this before?

[–]ulgulanoth38 points39 points  (3 children) | Copy

They've actually changed the name to try to mitigate the second problem but I have a feeling it's too late to save this roasted bird

[–]NohoTwoPointOh14 points15 points  (2 children) | Copy

What was the original name?

[–]ulgulanoth33 points34 points  (1 child) | Copy

The original name was "Birds of Prey and the emancipation of one fantabulous Harley Quinn" got changed to "Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey"

[–]khaleesicroft3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy

In my country it still has the first name

[–]the-unflattering-624 points25 points  (5 children) | Copy

It just doesn't look interesting to me. I didn't watch Suicide Squad either, and that doesn't have an all female cast. The only prejudice I have against the movie at all is Rosie Perez. I truly can't stand her voice. But none of that has to do with sexism.

[–]William_Travis_Smith9 points10 points  (4 children) | Copy

Suicide Squad was, without a doubt, the worst film I ever watched in its entirety.

[–]xero-wing2 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy

I watched batman V superman and thought it was terrible so when I watched suicide squad compared was a lot better .

[–]William_Travis_Smith1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

FLAWLESS TECHNIQUE!

[–]Philletto2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

The DC movies without superman are terrible. That whole series really flopped.

[–]GuineaIncel2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

Jared Leto made The Joker look like a Skid Row Street Tranny.

Birds of prey. They are Klingons?

How many movies have to bomb and how many millions have to be wasted until Hollywood stops doing this woke, feminist movies?

I swear I wish I had so much money that I wouldn't care about losing millions of dollars producing shit like this.

[–]username21367 points8 points  (0 children) | Copy

Lmao. I heard this was so bad that even the preorders had several theaters with empty showings on opening night. That’s the worst I have ever heard a movie do. Since not even feminists are buying these tickets, I think they might need to do some soul searching.

[–]Spacegirl9816 points17 points  (8 children) | Copy

Why is it a feminist movie?

[–]CommitXylenePerverts17 points18 points  (7 children) | Copy

Because it passes the Bechdel test I think.

[–]Spacegirl9810 points11 points  (5 children) | Copy

What's the bechdel test?

[–]GerinX15 points16 points  (4 children) | Copy

Google it. It’s a test that determines whether women talk in a bathroom about men. Or if their existence in the film or movie revolves around men.

[–]the-unflattering-620 points21 points  (3 children) | Copy

I just looked that up. It doesn't have to be in a bathroom, but two women have to be in a movie talking to each other about something other than men in order to pass it.

I think it's a little ridiculous. Did Captain Marvel pass it? Probably not, because there wasn't another significant female character in the movie. But it clearly made feminists happy.

[–]GerinX18 points19 points  (1 child) | Copy

That movie was a power fantasy for women. They didn’t even stop to think about the bechdel test while watching it.

Hypocrisy and the rejection of fact is a big thing in feminism

[–]NohoTwoPointOh9 points10 points  (0 children) | Copy

If it weren’t for double standards, they would have no standards at all.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children) | Copy

I think the fact that so many movies don't pass the Bechdel test says more about women than it says about men.

[–]PlantsAreAliveToo4 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy

Does it pass the gender swapped Bechdel test?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy

I knew the movie was gonna bomb the second I saw the castings a year ago. I had arguments about it and predicted that the movie is going to bomb. Good to see I was right :)

[–]ConsistentBottle4 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy

I would have been interested in it if they had cast a bunch of hot chicks in their early twenties and had cranked up the sexiness.

Instead they went the totally opposite direction with it. I remember reading an article somewhere about the casting being "a blow to so-called sexist ageist Hollywood "

Yes, Margot Robbie is awesome and she can play the bombshell. Just look at Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. But I got the picture they weren't going in that direction from the trailer.

[–]Mar_Ci4 points5 points  (0 children) | Copy

Ghostbusters 2016 noises

[–]TheA55M4N2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy

It’s actually really good. It’s nothing like Wokebusters or those other female woke movies

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

At this point Hollywood seems utterly desperate to churn out these feminist pieces of garbage that often crash and burn, or underperform, at the box office. Ghostbusters, Charlie’s Angels, and now this mess. I don’t think anyone remembers Ocean’s 8 today as well, or Ant-Man and the Wasp. You also hardly see a woman getting defeated in any films in general.

Hollywood seriously needs to a get a grip. Women aren’t infallible, and your movies that try to appeal to them are failing, so change your strategy.

[–]ataaulrasul1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

I'm a guy and i wanna watch it but I'm waiting for it to come out in HD on illegal sites where i watch it for free

[–]CobaltSurvivor1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy

False: birds aren’t real

[–]LandryP2 points3 points  (4 children) | Copy

I saw it, it's good and not feminist. It's just about women.

[–]khaleesicroft3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy

I can confirm. Am antifeminist and was forced to watch it by friends and was pleasantly surprised. Just a normal action flick with chicks instead of dudes.

[–]CrustyCumBollocks5 points6 points  (2 children) | Copy

Ewan McGregor was going around saying it was a feminist movie and it tackles misogyny - everything from everyday misogyny, right up to the more serious misogyny like rape and stuff like that.

[–]LandryP2 points3 points  (1 child) | Copy

Ok well I saw it, and the movie wouldn't have been any different if it was a group of dudes. The problem isn't the movie, it's the marketing. McGregor probably got an extra 50k to mention misogyny and feminism in every interview.

[–]CrustyCumBollocks3 points4 points  (0 children) | Copy

I haven't seen the movie so I can't comment on that but I do agree with the marketing... It's had a very heavy feminism angle to it.

[–]Pewdiepieisasexy120 points1 point  (0 children) | Copy

Margot Robbie was little literally the only good aspect of that movie. And I didn’t even see the movie. That doesn’t change the fact it still will most likely suck, though.
