Ok.... this comment is going to be long and go/cut deep. Just a forewarning.

TL;DR - black women destroyed the black community while scapegoating black men.

This is all about culture & indoctrination. Historically, there were 2 types of men in the black community. Those raised WITH a father, those raised WITHOUT. Those raised without always heard how black men abandoned black women OR left black women behind once they've earned success (I promise you....black men/men in general never are given success - regardless of what women say/think. Men EARN their way). So Mr. Smith here is the prototypical "nice guy" that has been indoctrinated to be loyal to black women. He saw horrific scenes in West Philly while growing up. In HIS mind, he wanted to prove that black men don't abandon their families. He wanted to prove that black men ARE loyal to their "black kweens"!!!
THIS IS THE RESULT - the ultimate betrayal. For DECADES black women got away with controlling the narrative that black men were: abusers, abandoners and betrayers. All the while - black women betrayed, black women abandoned (the family) black women abused (their power).
The SECOND type of black men - those raised WITH a father - was able to easily read the terrain, understand his value and say "fuck this noise....I'm out". They heard the SAME rhetoric, but had a father to provide perspective. That's why you saw black men dating white/Latin/Asian/anything EXCEPT BLACK chics.

It was never about better looks/bodies or any of that nonsense. Other women were better at hiding their nature. Instead of being loud, obnoxious and flatout masculine, other women were typical chameleons and we ALL came to the AWALT conclusion.
