I dont know how you handled it when your girl told you but I'm sure she observed very closely how you reacted both verbally and physically. In the future, laugh it off and say something like "yeah I bet she said that" with a big smile.

Under no circumstances should you engage with your ex whatsoever. That's exactly what she wants, attention frok you. I'm assuming you've been in bo contact with her. She wants to feel lile she is still relevant and still exists in your mind, so a text or a call from yoh no matter how nasty is all she wants. Don't message your ex thats what she wants. Now the girl you are talking to knows you have above average SMV ( Maybe even higher but above average is a guarantee since we don't know the full story).

I don’t know the situation or context but my personal take is to drop both of them, well the plate that somehow knows your ex. Too much drama, too much headache. I like obedient, submissive bitches who respect me without bringing additional bullshit into my life. Anything less and they’re not worth my time.
