"There's basically 3 solutions i can think of:

1) I suck it up and go back to work, my gardening and man-cave can wait until i retire in 30years.

2) She sucks it up, she wanted a job and split house chores, she got a better deal by only needing to go to work. Besides, it's only for a year.

3) I split the remaining 8months in half so she only has to work 4 more months and i get 4 more months house work."

This guy will choose option 1.

He needs to tell her to suck it up for the remainder of the agreement. HE is losing out on the one benefit his company offers that is a one time deal, even though this is unpaid leave, if he has enough funds to support the family during this leave he should tell her to stick it out.

She needs to experience the real world for a bit, this will help the guy later IMO, if she cheats or she learns how well she had it his life will get better in the end.
