My husband told me something today that I hated hearing. He said I have to win every conversation. It reminded me of my mother and how she had bullied my father all our lives.
I feel like I am the project manager of our relationship. I notice when things are wrong and bring them to his attention. Let me give an example to help you understand our dynamic.
A few days ago, we were cuddling and watching TV and he asked if we wanted to go upstairs, I said yes. As I got up, he said he'll follow me. No big deal. He played some video games and came upstairs. He asked if I'm awake and I said yes. He turned away from me and didn't cuddle me. From my side, it felt like he sent me away and actively avoided me after he came to bed. From his side, he just wanted 30 minutes alone time.
I got out of bed, thought about what happened, then I remembered all the times it has already happened in the past and realized that if I don't tell him, he won't be able to fix it. I came back to bed, hugged him and said "it made me sad that you sent me upstairs and didn't cuddle with me when came to bed. I love our nighttime routine and it's my favorite part of the day. When I'm away on business I can't sleep without you and it wrecks my sleep cycle. "
I tried my freakin best to not be a shrew, I was vulnerable, I tried to bring a problem to his attention without being annoying but he still got defensive and told me I never shrug anything off.
Please help me stop being annoying and nagging. Tell how I can do that without ignoring things that bug me.
