Quoting a friend's wife who said this on social media: "When coved hit in March, I essentially lost my job. as a part time employee and pregnant woman, I decided not to return to work. Being a stay at home mom is the hardest, most demanding job I have ever had. Do not EVER under estimate the work a mom puts in on a day to day work day."
My Mom was a true stay at home Mother. Every meal cooked from scratch. Growing up I didn't know what processed/canned food was. Clothes were washed by hand (so were the diapers that were made from cloth and were reused because my parents couldn't afford disposable diapers). I remember when my parents could finally afford a dishwasher it was a glorified drip dryer as my Mother continued to wash everything by hand because she didn't want to waste electricity using the dishwasher. All while teaching us math, how to read, write, etc. I was always at the top of my class because my mother would tutor me (while cooking or cleaning) for a few hours every day (keep in mind her highest level of education is 1st grade as she lost her Father at age 7 and dropped out of school to take care of her siblings. She never even got a GED). On top of that she'd drive us to sporting/extra curricular activities, do all the grocery shopping and our house was so clean you could eat off the floor at any time. She balanced the budget, paid the bills and kept track of every dollar in and dollar out by hand using a paper ledger. When we were old enough to babysit ourselves my Mother got a job at a retail store working 40+ hours a week. She paid for my brother's college tuition cash and he graduated without any student loans. I chose not to goto college because I didn't want my mother to have to work but she made such an impression despite not having any formal education that she kept getting promoted until she retired after 18 years and her extra income helped both my parents retire early. She is the textbook definition of success by showing up and working hard.
My Mother has every right to claim being a stay at home Mother is a tough job. The audacity of "women" today, particularly this one, who has everything: a high earning husband (my friend makes $200k+ a year), dishwasher, washer/dryer, Amazon prime deliveries, a $90k Mercedes SUV for when she actually has to get off her ass to pick something up that isn't delivered right to her door, smart phones, smart TVs, onDemand, Netflix... is she fucking serious? The kid starts crying because he wants to watch cartoons and with a touch of a button the kid is entertained and shuts up. What exactly is so hard about being a stay at home parent these days?
Serious question.
