“My homies said … “
“...99% of all men watch porn.”
“... nearly no man is addicted to porn.”
“… watching porn means nothing and has no effect on daily life.”

Here is collection of papers to contradict and correct “those facts” should you ever find yourself in a discussion about porn.

1. All men watch porn.

There are more men than women watching porn, but a reasonably big pool of men is pornfree. The absolutes vary per land, surveyed population, method and year.

This paper from 2019 gives an estimation of 81% men and 39% women watching porn in the age group of 20-40:

Another paper from 2014 finds 46% men and 16% women watching porn in the age group of 18-39 years:

2. Nearly nobody is addicted to porn

Porn addiction is still an understudied field, but it falls into the spectrum of Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD)

I found a study over two populations (one is a group of university student another is made up from community members) measuring CSBD and finding 10.1% and 7.8% afflicted. The study points out that in both groups manly porn-consuming men make up those afflicted despite a nearly even distribution of sexes in both groups.

3. Watching porn has no impact on daily life

Uff, this is a big one and I think most subtle effects on behavior are not even conclusively studied yet.

3a - the brain

This 2014 paper found a strong negative correlation between gray brain tissue and weekly porn consumption per hour. (strong negative correlation:=the more you do sth the less you get of sth) https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapsychiatry/fullarticle/1874574

3b - impotence

Due to conditioning of the brains sexual preferences porn use is associated in a sharp rise of erectile dysfunction when attempting partnered sex, review paper from 2016

3c - relationships

A 2017 paper shows correlation between increased chances for divorce and porn consumption in marriage:

3d - violence

A 2019 study on adolescents shows an increase in violent sexual behaviour against peers when they have consumed porn:

This is just a small collection of open-access papers, feel free to add your own interesting facts+material.
