Book recommendations to learn about Money/Finance/Investing?

I [21M] want to learn about economics from very basics, My ultimate goal is to learn about Stocks, Stock Market stuff and Investing in Stocks. I have a book called “Intelligent Investor” but as long as I don’t know the basic terms like spread, equity, offset etc, I won’t be able to understand it properly.

Then you want to learn finance specifically, not economics.

So, Can you recommend me books or lectures which can help me out on building my fundamentals/basics for my ultimate goal(Investing in stocks)?

It’s increasingly becoming the case these days that if you want to work your money and create an investment portfolio, you should look at opening up an account with an investment firm like Vanguard’s (which is one of them that I use) or another like Fidelity (which a lot of others use).

Individual day traders on their own lose a lot of money because those are the guys you’re competing against in the stock market, all the Quants and mathematical geniuses of all the top financial firms are going to outcompete you. You wouldn’t play LeBron James one-on-one if your life depended on it. That’s what you’re doing with your financial future if you go at it on your own most of the time. Generally you should pick an institution or follow the financial recommendations of individual stock picks of experts. Different portfolio selections and returns will depend on how much risk you’re willing to take. The greater the risk (potential loss) the greater the return (potential reward). If you’re investing for retirement, your selection will likely be more conservative, it all depends on what you want.

I have a few brokerage accounts. One of the things I do (and others do as well but generally they don’t share this information to the public, it’s an open secret among low key traders and investors) is buy an annual subscription to a very reputable financial advisor like The Motley Fool for $99.00 a year. They regularly put out their top line stocks they tell their subscribers to invest in and what they would recommend, and the data they regularly produce to show their results, shows that their choices outperform the S&P. That’s one thing I do that I would recommend.

If you really really really want to dive hard into finance, go to Amazon and type in “Wiley finance” in the search box, and you’ll get tons of results. They’re one of the major producers of financial related content that many experts in the field use. (Anytime you read books generally, always pay attention to the publishing house. Regnery publishes a lot of establishment right-wing often bullshit content. Verso produces left-wing books. Haymarket Books publishes left-wing labor related historical books, etc).

Being a serious student of finance means you need a mathematical background and should definitely know how to construct mathematical models in Excel. Building the capital structure of a firm involves doing a lot of that. You’re going to be learning a lot about Markov Chains and Bernoulli processes and Stochastic Processes and forward density modeling and Time Series Analysis and all that. I wouldn’t recommend it if you aren’t going into finance as a career path to become something like a CFA.

That said if you still want to go at it on your own (which I wouldn’t recommend apart from what I’ve recommended for ordinary people), there’s always the classic (and still highly relevant) Bible of value investing.

Forget about stocks - you can't outperform real inflation. And remember : the weak sheeps buy when markets are on the front page. The intelligekt ones buy while the depressions and wars.

imo best strategy is go mostly into index funds for long-term investing but make high risk plays when you see new industries emerging

Did you try google?

Also, with robinhood and the like, you can spend some learning money investing in stocks. Take it as a "learning by doing".

Btw, stay away from futures and options and anything with leverage, until you understand the risks.
