Yes, the way to address someone's fear about anything is to call them stupid for having it, then silencing any and all acknowledgement or evidence that such a fear even exists. Addressing the fear head on, and providing reassurance is for sissies.

I believe Freud won a Nobel Prize for developing this pioneering way of reassuring people about the worrisome thoughts in their head.

I'm not a psychiatrist but this is classic projection. The author senses this feeling of dread about being over 30, but because she's a Strong, Independent Woman, these feelings can't possibly be coming from herself. They must be coming from all these insecure stupid woman all around her who aren't as smart and strong. If she can just silence all of them, then the feeling she's sensing will surely go away, since it can't possibly be coming from deep within herself...

Thing is, ideally women WOULD have a life after 30, with a home, a husband and children. The only way women can get away certain behaviors and attitudes after 30 is if they at least gave their SO/husband their young attractive years in compensation.

If you show up with this kind of attitude at 30 without the prior investment of your youth and beauty, a lot of men are going to turn around and walk the other way.
