I'm a huge feminist, and I understand that a lot of it will be projection

But I can't help but also think for some men this is actually kind of true. Maybe not to the point of "they'd rather die" than show human weakness, but not everyone is fully aboard the "new masculinity" train yet.

I don't know how to answer to "how common" is it. I think there are varying levels of gendered expectations, some people are worse than others.

I definitely think it's more social, in the sense that human vulnerability is normal and healthy from a biological perspective. But the need to repress it comes from external pressures, the fear of conflict and competition with other, more brutal forces or people.

I don't know, and frankly i wouldn't care.

I've seen men claiming they can't be vulnerable around women, i've seen women claiming they don't like vulnerable men. I've seen men being vulnerable around women and nothing happening, i've seen women enjoying vulnerable men.

At the end of the day, i am a regular human being with desires and fears, and i act the way i want to act, if that includes being vulnerable about something and my partner doesn't like it she can GTFO. I'm not gonna play some actor role to make nobody comfortable. As long as you're not some perpectual senitive BPD type drame queen, no woman should leave you over vulnerability. If she does, she can go be a cliche bitch elsewhere.

It's amazing that some men appear to genuinely believe that their wife and children would rather have them die than loose masculine status.

They're projecting their own feelings upon their family. THEY THEMSELVES feel insecure and vulnerable and bad when they show weakness, but they cannot possibly understand it as something that comes from themselves/or they see it as something so obvious, so natural, that a man cannot show weakness, that they just assume that their family also feels that way.

I don't know how common it is, but I've seen it all along the spectrum among both men and women about how they feel with men showing weakness. Some women like it, some women hate it. Some men want it, some men are repulsed by it.

Beyond that I have no idea about statistics. I would assume women who subscribe to more traditional gender roles are more likely to reject men who show weakness, but I don't know.
