Unfortunately you are not wrong. I remember when r/Incel was originally shut down. They flooded into r/MGTOW and most of us welcomed them with open arms. No one really knew that much about them. We looked at them as homeless dudes that needed a place to be, and they seemed at first to be sharing the same message. It’s important to note the difference though. It’s true MGTOWs go thru a period of red pill rage as they exit the plantation, but it’s something they get over the further from the plantation they get. Incel’s always seemed to me to be guys that are kicked off the plantation, and are pissed that they can’t get on. While their anger seems similar to that of a first time MGTOW, their mind set is firmly blue pill. They would be on the plantation if they could. It’s unfortunate, but Incel are not MGTOW.

You can blame the incels but I was banned from MGTOW (As an actual MGTOW) for calling out the I cel influx turning it to women/"simp" hating bullshit. That sub was no longer representative of men going their OWN WAY. Consisted mostly of incels and guys trying to increase SMV while simultaneously saying how they don't care what women think. But FDS should have been banned fucking ages ago - disgraceful Reddit might have to find somewhere new.

It has long been my thought that the MGTOW mindset (I won't call it a movement) is more about economics and reaction to societal norms than it is about women. Granted, since the interactions between men and women are a driving force in society, a man's relationship with women is one that should get a lot of scrutiny.

In my humble opinion, MGTOW is about choosing a course in this life that's right for you, whether it conforms to societal norms or not. This is a very individual choice, which is why you can have a celibate MGTOW and a MGTOW who has been married for twenty years. Both are choosing their own path and even if those paths aren't the same, they can still exchange thoughts and ideas.
