Because of shame. Some people realize that a high number can be a deal breaker. Also, performing sexual acts with one partner and refusing the same act with their current partner can lead to issues.

What I can tell you, no matter how cliche this sounds is very wary of what you're told, it's most likely not even close to the actual history, and it's not just about the raw number of sexual partners but the quality of those partners and the circumstances.

Where at all possible, do your own independent research. If you can get access to her email account, then snoop, but only if she's the type who keeps all those old emails, you'll be amazed at what you find there.

A few things to look out for.

If she was working abroad for any reasonable duration of time. Eyebrows should be raised. If she claims in a 2 year period while abroad she had 1 or 2, sex partners. More like 10.
When you find old photos of sleepovers "but we were just friends" they most likely fucked.
Guys emailing her after she moved away or changed jobs, etc. Depending on the nature of the emails and the lengths they stay in contact - Yeah it was a FWB scenario, or where colleagues they fucked at least once, maybe a few times.
If you think "Nah not this girl, she's not a slut, isn't even that interested in sex". Yeah, even these types (from personal experience) could have once been a village bicycle. I'm talking a fresh random guy every week.

Lastly if you're looking for a total non-slut, these days good luck with that.

Part, it's shame, but also intimacy. What goes on in a bedroom should stay in a bedroom. Mostly it's just the notion that you give yourself to a certain person and there's a sense of privacy and trust, something we don't see often.

I just read an interesting book about french relationships, I guess in France no one asks about their partners sexual past. It's none of your fucking business. It also gives a sense of mystery. This goes for men and women, it is just not discussed.

I don't know how deep you go into the questions of someone sexual past, but I'd think it gets weird at some point for most people. Do you take notes as you ask the questions? Do you offer your response to the question back? How do you make decisions and the end of the questions?

I want to know about their STD past and their cheating past. I don't think I'd get the full truth in that, either.

Because women don't value sex, they value relationships. It's very very easy for a woman to get sex whenever she wants it, but relationships where she feels valued (by a valuable man) are much harder. But women know that men do value sex. It's how most women get men to help them: either with sex, or the promise of sex. She knows that you value sex, and if she has had sex with lots of men, it drastically devalues her.

That's why she avoids the question and lies about it. The sex didn't matter to her, but it sure does to you.

Real simple. Because relationship is a transaction.

People become friends who value good judgement, respect and trust. Anything goes against these will break a friendship. My friend who told me about the past few breakups trusted me not to tell his future wife, or I used it to blame him for his future relationship failures. If I broke this trust, I can expect him to never talk to me again.

People who become partners who value pleasure in flesh, resources, protection and status. Anything that goes against these breaks a relationship.

Women are known to be not honest because they cannot afford it. Why would a man seek you when you have 5 partners in the last 2 years? Even if he doesn't mind, his acquaintances will now think very low of him. The man's status is threatened. Just look at Prince William and prince Harry who married sluts, what is people's reaction? What do people think of them?

On the other hand, if her notch count is too low, it will be used against her in the future. "You don't want to do this? no wonder you are a virgin at 28." This point applies to the guys even more, if they admit they are a virgin at 28. The wives will show no mercy to force them to buy big engagement rings, expensive cars if they are unwilling.

If a guy's notch count is too high, just want for the shit test. "Oh, bigger? Compared to whose?" "Good time? Compare to XXX it is better?". Especially when she becomes your wife, you cannot even ask her to get lost.

Fundamentally, relationship is a like in a business. You don't go around and tell the co-worker you like how much you despise your boss or that cocky customer. There is nothing wrong, but also nothing right. Which is why I shun relationship completely.

It’s because they know that it will run off the guy. Hence why they’ll lie about their number of partners. There has been scientific studies done as well to prove that more partners = less pair bonding = more likely to divorce.

It makes sense if you think about it. It’s like a sticky note being attached and detached to surfaces numerous times overtime. The adhesive will be little to none quickly.

The law of diminishing returns and being desensitized are two more things which back this up.

Ultimately it shows lack of control and thought about the long term. Credit Bureaus, Banks, Employers, Businesses, Car Faxes and many other things in life essentially judge past behavior and patterns to assess the risk/reward.

If one cannot be honest upfront in the relationship, then it’s doomed along with the fact that more secrets will be kept.

If someone says: “The past doesn’t matter, only that I’m with you now”

Then you say: “ Then how about I invite my friend/ex over and we all hangout. Since the pst doesn’t matter, and after all he/she’s a human being, it shouldn’t matter.
