How to figure out what service it is to give to the world?

I'm in the military, and while sometimes I hate the strict regulatory and hierarchical nature of it, I find that it gives me financial abundance, and it's extremely easy to get women. It's essentially a big business and my job focuses on saving lives rather than doing the bullshit human puppet dance of invading and killing people. Saving other people's lives gives mine purpose. I did not think this was my life calling, I don't believe in that bullshit. That's a fairytale. You can make it a few ways in this world. Live off the grid (sustenance living or crime), or figure out how to be OK with being in the grid. Being in the military is very within the grid, but I still have a personal life that fulfills and nurtures my spirit.

Plus, being in the military is a prime way to stay in shape or get jacked. Its set up for you to be as healthy as possible.

I'm a teacher in Thailand. A lot of teachers come here to fuck around, but if you take it seriously and play your cards right you can earn a 1st world wage in a 2nd world country whilst working a fulfilling job.

It's also incredibly easy to fuck girls out here and you don't need to be a certified teacher in your home country to teach English.

Pretty easy but hard road filled with trying what didn't work.

At first I tried all sorts of stuff. Whatever sounded cool and in my field of engineering. I learned what I loved and didn't love. What would get me to push myself beyond the convenient. When I felt I hit my max in terms of physical effort, I began to improve my effectiveness by training my mind. When I came to a place where I felt I could do anything, I went after my freedom.

Heads up: it isn't a monetary amount but rather a knowing that you can make anything happen. For me, it was my first five figure invoice for services rendered.

So now I'm free, I took a look at all the things I enjoyed to do and see what common theme emerged: solving problems, dealing with people, helping make people's lives easier, project basis work, geographically independent, total autonomy, control over hours/schedule, recurring income, up front payment, value economy.

I took the above list and split between required and nice to have and then gauged whether I move on from a position based on if the new position fulfilled more of my preferences. Now, I am a freelance project engineer for a secured income source and run multiple business ventures on the side. I 'work' a lot, but frankly, I feel alive when I'm working.

There are times I have thought about taking a 9-5 but this lifestyle is worth the effort to upkeep.

TLDR: tried a bunch of stuff until I knew what I wanted and then worked from that frame

That's a good question. I was in my 30s before I found my mission (or it found me, LOL). Maybe it's simply a question of being open to the concept? I think I always had a sense that my life was about more than just satisfying my own appetites. Sooner or later I think you'll hit upon a situation that makes you go, "If not now, when? If not here, where? If not me, who?"
