Wow man. This spoke to me. Still married but contemplating divorce. My kids are almost grown and flown but a lot of damage has been done over the years. She’s finally getting long overdue help but I’m not sure if things will work out. DMs are open if you’d like to chat more.

In the process of divorcing my wife who claims to have mental health problems, no to kids part for us but she has 3 kids with 2 ex’s. Bro you will find yourself again it only took me getting my freedom from her to start feeling like myself again. As for the other 2 questions I couldn’t answer those as to they do not fit my situation.

Sounds like you haven’t talked to a lawyer yet. Do so. “Habitual drunkenness” is grounds for divorce in most states. That said, if your suit is based on that, you’ll get the kids 100%. No judge will give kids to a drunk (even if it’s the mother). You also need to take pics of things. I was planning to file using “habitual drunkenness” but when her attorney saw the evidence I had been collecting, it changed everything and she stopped fighting me for more. Ultimately we split civilly because she was embarrassed about her alcohol problem. And, yep, I got my boys 100% but I do let them visit.

How old are the kids ? In any case please get help. Counselling to help you learn how to manage her and legal advise to make sure you are in control. You have got to put the kids first. She won’t fix that until you make clear boundaries and the authorities make it clear to her that it’s not ok... good luck

She's not an alcoholic. But when she did drink, maybe 3 times a year, she would drink to get drunk. My exwife was, and still is prescription pill popper. Narcotics, muscle relaxers, mood stabilizers, sleeping pills. I never knew what to expect on a daily basis. Would she be in the ER? Would she be in court? Would she have another crash?

When we met, she worked full time, drove a car, and took care of herself. That was before pills. 5 years into our marriage (and 2 kids later), she became a full blown addict. Couldn't work, as no one would hire someone in the fog of pills. She couldn't drive, as multiple car crashes and DUI's took away her license.

I filed for divorce after an 11 year marriage, because I didn't want to be financially responsible all of her disasters.

I got out with $0 alimony and 50/50 custody. I also kept my house and my car. All she got was half o my 401k.

The kids were little, 9 & 6, but they adjusted well. She got remarried. I got remarried. She got re-divorced after 6 months of wedded bliss. She's been living with her parents ever since.
