So I'm in need of some advice here guys. Extra grateful if anyone has any direct experience or expertise in this.

Divorced a few years ago and now remarried with a 5 y.o. son. Wife also gave birth a few months ago to another son and we're planning on at least one more.

The relationship with my ex is very difficult. She will not compromise on anything and recently, despite my offer to mediate for a move to a cheaper/better area, decided to buy a house in the county where we currently live. She did suggest a possible move but only to one place and then with a bunch of other demands attached. However, she is insisting that our son stay in his current school district even though she bought a house in a different district and I cannot afford to buy a house in this one.

This situation is untenable to me. It cannot be right that I, my wife, and both sons are forced to stay in an area because of the impulsive decisions and inflexibility of one other person. Am seriously considering a move-away challenge to the current custody arrangement.

We have no family in the area we live in (neither does my son's mother) and I have been responsible for arranging and managing the vast majority of my son's schooling and health care. When my son is with his mother he is not completing or turning in the work assigned by the school. If I and my new family move away then my other son would literally have no support network in the local area either. I am able to be a stay at home dad for the next few years while she works full time and would have to rely on expensive child care. In addition the place we would like to move to has my wife's family close by, much better schools, a far lower crime rate, cheaper housing, and is easier to get to my family from.

I cannot see how a judge could possibly conclude that it would be better for my son to stay here given the circumstances. Its not that I think that his mother is a bad mother but she would just be completely incapable of actually managing his life if she had to do it on her own. So far she has been taking advantage of the fact that I have managed these things because she has claimed that she is too busy at work. I don't want my son to lose contact with his mother and really hope that she can be forced into some compromise through the mediation. I am not even insisting that a move needs to happen immediately. I am willing to wait a reasonable amount of time. But she is forcing me into a position where I have no choice unless I just want to roll over to her wishes and demands.

Sorry for the rant.
