My wife and I have both been in counseling for a year. We see our own counselors separately and then meet as a group occasionally. Long story short, my counselor told me today that she doesn't see anything changing and that my wife has no insight as to why things are bad key alone take the necessary steps to change for the better.

My wife has a drinking problem (has two drinks every night) and an eating disorder she refuses to address. She smokes hourly, hides in the bathroom, and thinks pancakes is an acceptable nightly dinner for our 6 year old daughter. The closest she gets to cooking is frozen pizza or spaghetti. She's been emotionally and mentally abusive and controlling to me for years.

Our daughter, we adopted, is 6. Her birth parents both died (father OD'd, and mother was an addict but hemorrhaged during another pregnancy). She has been with us since the day she was born and never had any type of relationship with the birth parents. She's getting to the age that counseling for that issue will be necessary and I don't want to add to it by filing.
