Honestly everyone should get a prenup. You might be BFFs with your SO now, but who knows in a few years? Just cause people vow to be with each other for life and forever and all and have grand weddings, that doesn't guarantee things will work out for life, and then it's better to be on the safe side than the sorry side. A prenupt doesn't mean you care for the other person any less right now, it just means you would care less for them if you were to divorce. It also means you don't care to provide for a person if you divorce them, which imo is entirely fair and reasonable. Imo nobody should be entitled to another person's money, not even after a breakup. What they've earned should be theirs and what you earned should be yours. Don't like it? Then work harder, earn more and dig your own gold by working hard like all the hardworking men out there, instead of going digging in men's or someone's wallets for their gold. Can't work? Tough shit. We all have to earn our way through life. It's either that or leech off of somebody else, and who wanna be a leech? Sure as hell not me.

As for the woman in the article, if she's in law school she will be making bank eventually, so I don't see why she should worry about a prenupt.. Unless she wants his money.

There seems to be a bunch of young people that have this fairy tale view of marriage.

They actually think that because they are in love now they will still be in love with their partner 20 years later. I can tell them straight up that the chances of that are incredibly slim.

Very very few marriages that have been more than a decade or two where the people are still in love. Some stay together anyway due to the financial benefits or for the childrens sake or because they fear being alone.

But a prenup is pretty much a critical element these days if one partner has a lot of assets or earning potential.

Seems to me community property in marriage is the state's way of forcing a man to "take care of" a woman. It's never again about what you want after you sign that contract. GOVERNMENT decides how your life will go after that.
