I'm sorry but if it only took 4 minutes to run through the list while reading slowly it's a small list. It's all tragic and no one should be killed obviously but this hysteria is ridiculous.

[–]Stavrosian 59 points60 points61 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

70.3% of murder victims in the UK are male. Women most affected.

[–]Stephen_Morgan 19 points20 points21 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She also refused to mention trans victims.

I'll say here what I've said in other places:

I completely sympathise with all of the victims of assault. And I understand the push to "make streets safer for women," just all of this seems to be under a false pretence.

A) The assumption that men don't care
B) The assumption that there is a disparent danger on the streets.
C) Society has just accepted dead women.

Whilst B is can be debated through statistics that I'm not going to get into right now. A is what really pisses me off.
The large majority of men will not have committed a violent crime. So when you see "All Men" there is the implication that the majority are bad. Which is absurd.

Whenever there's any sort of debate about predominantly women's issues, the majority of social posts usually contain some derivative of we don't care what men think about this.
You get used to the notion that you people aren't going to care about your thoughts, even if they're in support.

So when the dreadful loss of life happens, of course, we all feel bad.
But you shouldn't judge a groups care for an event by how much they tweet about it.

I feel men, in general, are used to not being listed during what could be a healthy conversation, and as such, face alienation when these sorta issues become prevalent.

I really want to strive for safer streets, but to read out the names of 118 women, and omit the names of 506 men that were killed in the same period is manipulative, and misleading.

It also shows utter hypocrisy in point C, the statement that Society has just accepted dead women. Spoken by an MP Who as just accepted 3 times that number of men.

The large majority want the streets to be safer, and to an extent, I do believe a lot of it is only achievable by challenging norms.
But that's never going to happen if you pretend that half population don't give a shit about the other.

Things really seem to be ramping up against men in the UK right now. Looking at my social media people are really buying into it too

[–]DesmondCaid 20 points21 points22 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

i'm a college student (17) and the social media of my age is just filled with shared posts about the topic. Crazy, can't catch a break. Thinking of deleting Instagram entirely, it's just Male belittlement left right and centre.

Same buddy, I like it to follow some things I'm interested in. I just unfollow anyone now who posts this kind of stuff

[–]Shoot4321 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I see the same thing, it’s just because everyone is bored in lockdown, if it wasn’t pandemic then it wouldn’t get half as much social media attention, same deal with the BLM stuff last year. People are bored, easily relatable story, ignites primal fear in people and an easy way to gain attention and validation....

[–]Alarming_Draw 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I made a post about that today too as it shocked me. We really are becoming a nation of cowed self loathing men unless we act fast and wake up, organise and start fighting back.

[–]Atilla942 21 points22 points23 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This woman has a record of saying misandrist bullshit but the crazier part is she actually has political power to cause damage to men. Feminism has political power to influence polices which harm men compared to men's rights advocates who are bullied off from media, politics and college campuses.

[–]IWantToJustTalk 34 points35 points36 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This really pissed me off because of what the mps during the debate were saying. " "It is not women who are the problem here, it is men, and the criminal justice system fails women and lets men off the hook. Whether it is rape or whether it is domestic homicide, women are judged and blamed. ". This quote is the biggest yikes I've ever heard in my like. Like WTF imagine saying that about black people. WHy does society pretend like women are the biggest victims of violence in the world. And that they are somehow better victims then men. And all studies show these people are wrong but they keep spewing this nonsense.

[–]ResonantSpiral 28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Women are twice as likely to be let off without any punishment at all as men. At least in the US. I would imagine its similar in the UK, since our gender bias issues are very similar. When crimes against women are reported to the police, they are taken much more seriously. And crimes against men by women are often laughed off. So the statistics simply won't show those.

[–]Eoasap 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Then they use those manipulated stats of more violence amd serial abuse towards women. Well... yeah! of course when 90% of the time men try reporting them they're dismissed and ignored, of course the stats will look bad.

This doesn't even take into consideration the huge amount of men who never report for fear of retaliation (ie: man is sexually assaulted reports the crime, and the women perpetrator files a false report saying it was the man that was the true aggressor).

Its a HUGE problem. the statistics will never show anything close to accurate representation and makes it look like women can do no wrong and men are all savages. With the law, courts, and public opinion in their back pocket I don't see things changing for awhile.

118 names listed. 695 murders in the UK in the last year. Male victims 507. Female victims 188. The figures from the ONS don't give information about female suspects. The only suspects numbers are for male suspects, and are aggregated over a three year period.

I’ve been heartened by the top twitter responses though, they’re scathing of her and point out her hypocrisy in that she only supports the ‘right’ type of people that in her view ‘deserve’ sympathy.

Also very happy to see the backlash against the vile comments made in the House of Lords that men should be subject to 6pm curfew.

These vile people have been emboldened to show their hateful, discriminatory hypocrisy and my faith in humankind has been slightly restored by the backlash they have received.

[–]corkless 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

The green party peer Sarah Everard has suggested a 6pm curfew for all men in the uk. I am honestly feeling very anxious about the whole thing. It seems that every crime is now a witch hunt on whole of the male population. The person that kills/rapes/hurts another person is often unstable or ill. I hate that we live in such a dualistic society and that all men are portrayed as neanderthals who will rape and pillage if the opportunity arises. As long as there is a way to be violent a person can choose that route.

Edit: Baroness Jones

[–]empatheticapathetic 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Sarah is the woman who went missing. Not the Green Party rep.

[–]corkless 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for the correction.

[–]Alarming_Draw 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And this is EXACTLY why feminists are so often compared to witches. Cos they are just evil spouting hateful cackling ugly man hating fact dodging hysterical douches and have no place in power anymore until they earn the trust they can act with decency and truth.

[–]Alarming_Draw 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This f**ing p.o.s cnt?! Ah I feel so much better for letting that out. Jess phillips is pure evil. Thats all. She laughed when a male politician went through numbers of men dead from cancer to make a point about equality (its on youtube), she has a history of man hating-she is the original ugly butthurt man hating feminist. And she wants to be Prime Minister.

No thanks, I really appreciate your input, it is important to get the information right so I’ve removed my original post as it is incorrect as you say. Thanks again.

[–]Tank-o-grad 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No worries, and thank you for responding in such a civil manner. I've removed my post too, no need to keep the warning sign up when the danger is gone.

No idea what either of your original messages were, but thank you both for being such civilised Redditors. Nice to see such humility and good manners amongst a sea of vitriol.

[+]datatroves -12 points-11 points-10 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The reason we get more attention for female deaths, is most of our male victims were the more or less unpreventable results of men fighting, or being involved in some kind of criminal activity. About a quarter of male homicides are termed 'victim precipitated' , where they started trouble of some sort at that time, and it didn't go well.

Unless you want stupidly restrictive stop and search, alcohol bans and a police state, there's not a lot you can do about them. There's no 'run up' that comes to police attention.

You won't find this funny, but the male curfew probably would cut these crimes a fair bit.

Most of our female deaths were as a result of IPV, plus stalking, and a lot of these were both preventable and predictable with an innocent victim. They are failings of the courts and police. It's why people are more bothered.

[–]CyberDagger 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a lot of victim blaming going on here.
