Basically what the title says. I feel like whether I feel attractive can make or break my day. I hate when I get immense jealously and competition when I hear one of my male friends call someone else attractive. I hate that these are my instinctual reactions and I desperately want to change my mindset. It makes me so critical of myself and others.
Edit: Thank you so much to all those who have responded thus far. I am reading each and every comment and hope to reply to many more! I think I need to dig deep into myself, as I am an accomplished, talented, giving person in so many ways, but none of those things factor as much into my self-esteem as how my appearance is perceived by others.
The day I found out that my research paper was published in IEEE, I also found out I had gained 5 pounds. I was crying about my weight even though I had just achieved such an exciting milestone. That's just wrong. So I'm excited to take this advice to heart and start deprogramming myself.

Plenty of fish in the sea. Why get hung up on one fish?

If the fish contains a sickness that can destroy the ocean....

Are you asking this as a real question?
While there is increasing pressure on men for physical attractiveness too, I think the male equivalent for this question has always been more around success/winning or status. Even the physical markers of attractiveness for men often have less to do with pure beauty and "prettiness" and more to do with the impression of power, success and the ability to protect.

What a toxic cesspool TwoX is. If I want to be depressed about women I can torture myself all day and read the posts.
Note to lurkers. You are not special. If you act descent than you can have the privilege of being treated equal.

Decent*
Descent is either a downward climb or slope (the opposite of ascent), ancestry/origin (being of -blank- discent), or an attack/onslaught. Not to be confused with decent or dissent.

Absolutely. People who are sociopaths should not be treated equally.

How dare this woman be insecure about her body!? The audacity. Lets all clutch our pearls and get offended at a women going through real issues that we've all faced to some extent...

To whoever reported this comment. We don't ban people for being feminists.

Actually I think that men do not experience this beauty competition to the same extent as women do, so it is understandable why most people on this sub will not understand what this woman is on about.
[–]triangularprismshard 1 point2 points3 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Doesn't matter to men, women created a competition amongst themselves and now get off to blaming men for their stupid problems.

I think we should mirror some conversations that XX has.
It would do us some good.
I too get jealous if a female friend said another man was attractive. I want to look my best, be fit.
But knowing that my personality will never be enough, and there is no way I'll have enough in $$ or status, I would give up.
On the other hand, if I had money or status, I know women would use me.
Luckily, I found my wife early, but I feel for you single men out there. It is do or die. You look good/have money or you will have a hard time finding a partner.
Your personality is enough though, EVENTUALLY, you can lower your standards, be happy, find joy in yourself.
Do anything but be miserable.

Is this Men's Rights sub or women hating sub? Nothing wrong with what's posted on that sub. Both men and women have body image insecurities.
[–]Astavri 3 points4 points5 points (0 children) | Copy Link
You're not wrong. It's just no one acknowledges that men have the same issue too. It is not a gendered issue that XX is making it out to be.
This is not a women hating sub (most folks). If anything, it is jealousy that women upvote the shit out of comments like that, have support, while men, again are ignored or kept out.
But I guess that's this subs fault.
Maybe we should talk more about stuff that mirrors XX that can relate to men as well.
On a side note, Any women hating posts or comments are heavily downvoted such as "women are cunts" because a mass amount of us acknowledge women are in fact not all cunts. I seen this happens on several occasions.

Agree with hrdp453. This is not even remotely a men's rights issue
[–]benderXX[S] 7 points8 points9 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Wow.
Calling out the fetishistic obsession with body and self on TwoX is hating women. Everything in TwoX reads as “it’s all mens Fault”. Including body image obsessions. Men and women obsess equally. If women use their body as a currency and stresses them out then it’s on them. Not on any man. No man should feel guilty if he is attracted to a women and he owes her nothing if he is.
[–]hrdp453 -3 points-2 points-1 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Agree with nearly everything you said there. However the post was about being jealous of other women's looks. And if we're talking about obsession with body and self, men are equally involved with that including myself. Just go to your local gym and see for yourself. Absolutely nothing wrong work that mate.
And if you're picking out specific posts on that sub just to justify that women blame men for everything, then yes, you're nitpicking. Men's issues and women's issues are bigger than these silly complaints.

Is it bad when I see that on 2X and smile?
[–]Astavri -2 points-1 points0 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Why's that, because women are having problems with this issue?
[–]triangularprismshard 0 points1 point2 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Having problems of something they themselves created, it's females own fault for creating a toxic environment for being prettier than the next one. So yes it's funny to see them go crazy because of something so silly.
[–]dr_pepper02 0 points1 point2 points (0 children) | Copy Link
The issue is women have power in their physical appearance, the power to get the high status men.
Men on the other hand can be as ugly as Weinstein but still get the high status women because they have what women want. The high status male.
[–]FranklinRoe -1 points0 points1 point (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't see the problem with her feeling insecure. Care to elaborate?
