Racist woman blocks a minority from entering his residence. Reddit immediately starts making excuses for the woman's actions "she's clearly in an abusive relationship based on this 4 minute clip of her car".

Its not even just an acceptable reality people joke about or talk about prison rape like its supposed to be part of a person's punishment. American culture is so vindictive and anti-rehabilitation

Yes, and the cognitive dissonance in this article is mindblowing:

Every individual in state custody deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, and we must always remember that female inmates have long been uniquely vulnerable to abuse

Don't get me wrong, it's a good thing that people are standing up for these women, but calling women uniquely vulnerable is to completely ignore known problems that exist in our culture and prison systems.

Remember men CANNOT BE RAPED, so women are "uniquely vulnerable", it's insane but that's how they think.

[–]Briterac 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't even believe that they're uniquely vulnerable.. no mail guard is going to risk his entire career and freedom to rape a female prison inmate.. or at least it would be exceedingly rare.. and I would venture that other female in the prison would be LESS likely to rape somebody than a male

Putting aside the difficulty because of anatomy women would just have less of an urge. It's the loneliness and testosterone in male prisons as well as the fact that for men sex is a form of dominance I'm not denying that it could be the same for females. They get horny too. And for some of them rape can be a form of dominance but that kind of thing is just more prevalent in men..

It's just the facts. Women tend to establish dominance in other ways..

So I would challenge that narrative and dare them to post statistics proving that women are uniquely vulnerable..

for men they literally have to join a prison gang to avoid being raped in the showers..

But yes it's true that the sexist matriarchs don't believe that men can even be raped.. it's the same as when Hillary said that even though men make up a larger portion of the prison population she still wanted to lower the number of females..

Or when she said that women were the primary victims of men going off and dying in warss

but people need to stop complaining on message boards and they need to make a bigger public complaint about it. We should not be tolerating matriarv

I was trying to imply that it's not true, but it IS what they believe, it's part of their ideology, women are ALWAYS victims, men cannot ever be.

Eh, let’s not forget that women are more likely to be sexually assaulted than men in prison, just not by staff.

If I remember correctly, instead of forming gangs, women form prison families as an emulation of their home lives, which often includes sexual assault.

I remember a girl in an interview saying something to the effect of, "you may not be a lesbian on the outside, but in here, you will be if you want to survive."

The article is specifically talking about abuse at the hands of prison staff/ guards.

I'm unclear as to the point of your post title. Is the prison supposed to turn a blind eye to abuse by guards because the abuse was against women?

While I understand your point, it's still a big problem that women get sexually assaulted in prison by guards. I even saw a video where one woman had to give birth in a prison cell, alone without any medical asssistance, even after asking for help. We shouldn't divide stuff like this by gender, instead we should accept the fact that prisoners are treated sometimes horribly by the prison staff, and even sexually assaulted, which is fucked up and it needs to change. Women and men have it equally as bad in this regard

I can't agree with you more. I was referencing the way the article is written as though this is a women's issue when "drop the soap" is a trope in movies and jokes and the rape of men is normalized.

Ah my bad then g, I misunderstood your message

[–]eliadee 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Tweet with me to seek justice:

Male prison rape is not an accepted reality. The vast majority of correctional facilities take it very serious due to PREA. Reports of assaultive sexual activity can get government moving at speeds most people don't think possible. When men are raped in prison alot of the time it's for protection.

I knew an incident where multiple younger inmates were "consenting" to sex with an older inmate in exchange for protection. When we discovered it, the older inmate got several months in solitary confinement and last I heard they were looking at additional criminal charges for him. Thr victims said his tactic was essentially to find new inmates, paint a stereotypical picture of how dangerous prison is, then offer them protection but in exchange they had to do him sexual favors. Some inmates said no, some said yes. The ones that said no went about their time just fine without the so-called "protection". The victims thought they were safe because of the protection, not realizing their naivety was taken advantage of by this particular individual.

This isn't to say that prison rape does not occur, but calling it an accepted reality is disingenuous at best. PREA complaints are taken very seriously in prison.

Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003

The Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA) is the first United States federal law intended to deter the sexual assault of prisoners. The bill was signed into law on September 4, 2003.
