Well, evolutionarily, men can take up the strategy of spreading their seed as wide as possible, or they can focus on having kids with one (or more) faithful woman and raising those kids to improve their chances of survival. The former strategy is used by the those of the "cad" archetype, who prioritize quantity over quality through a "spread the seed" strategy, while the latter strategy is used by those of the "dad" archetype, who prioritize quality through high parental investment. I don't take the "biological imperative" argument when it comes to men being hardwired to "spread their seed". It only appears that way. We all need to start thinking about this issue differently.

I think that men NEED to release their sexual energy where as women don't NEED to...they may THINK that they need release and they do get horny (especially at that time of the month when they are ovulating!), but it is not the same type of drive as it is in a man. It may be just as intense, if not more, but it is still not the same drive.

I think men SPEND their sexual energy and women CASH IN on their sexual energy. Fundamentally, men drain themselves by having sex and women fill themselves by having sex.

A lot of RP dudes go right for the evolutionary survival of the fittest argument which I think is wrong...only because I believe that human beings are more than simply an advanced animal form. Animals do not have consciousness or morals.

Male sexual energy gets pent up and accumulates in them when there is no release, women are not the same. They may appear on the surface the same but it is not. One thing the RP does is appreciate the differences between men and women and not try to impose the same characteristics on both sexes. What lies behind the sex drive is no different.

And personally I think there are 2 kinds of sexual energy...one type, that I am describing, is like taking a shit (sorry for the crude example)...it builds up and it builds up until you have to get rid it...if you don't get rid of it then it starts to affect physiology and mental health.

The other type is EROS and it is more purposeful and consciously applied and although it may be as intense it is not a release in the same way as the other type is.

I will digress here a little and say that young men and women both have the "get rid of this sexual energy" thing going on with them, but as we get older and more aware of ourselves and our bodies this tends to change.

And of course, with no knowledge of this, we blend the two together and start coming up with conclusions that are false...like the "procreate, survival of the fittest" argument.

I don't really buy into the idea too much, but I consider myself to be very RP. Obviously, men have different/stronger sex drives, but I don't think that means that men (or all men anyway) want to spread their seed all over. I believe it's possible for a man to only want the intimacy of a marriage/LTR and be RP.

Is this question the only thing that's preventing you from swallowing TRP?

Guy here, and I think that is bullshit. Everyone is different. I know just as many women that sleep around just as much as any guy.

Personally, I prefer a relationship to casual hookups with multiple partners, and oddly enough, it is sex that makes me prefer it.

For me, "surprise" sex with a random partner usually fills me with anxiety, and it is because I don't know her intimately enough to know what she really likes and how to make her climax as many times as possible... I also have an above average sized penis which usually is a problem for a "first timer" lol.

I prefer a relationship because it is more sexually gratifying to me, and this is why; a partner will eventually get use to the size of my penis, allowing us to constantly "turn up the heat" by being able to go harder, faster, and longer.

All my "surprise" hookups never resulted in a climax on my end. It's really hard to nut when you can only go in so far and have to go really slow.... VERY unsatisfying.

what difference does it make if it is an innate biologically deterministic product, the way our minds create reality from that biology, or some kind of conditioning that makes it so, that men want to fornicate. It exists. And because it exists, we have to deal with it. Many efforts have been made to deal with it, by suppressing through religion and morality, by extolling it as a hedonistic good, by rationalizing it as acceptable or not.

How you deal with it is up to you. RP is about saying that this exists, and can be managed to experience a life that is conducive to happiness. A life where our minds are not going against our natures, but work with them to shape them into a reality with which we can be happy and live richly.

If you want to hang your hat on the epistemic justification that nature/biology > all, then OK, there are theories and studies to support the evolutionary position. But ultimately, that too is irrelevant because there's a general path that leads to wellbeing, and that path is being the best version of yourself, in a way that works differently for a man and for a woman.

I actually work with genetics researchers so I'm not just totally BSing here - though I'm not one of the researchers themselves so take it with a few grains of salt -

It's all honestly a lot of circumstantial evidence because that's how genetics works. It is very complex to map a societal thing all the way back down to some subset of genes, so actually you're asking more of a biological/sociological question than genetics.

But here's what is known - in a man's life, his testes will generate 200-300 million sperm PER DAY. When a sperm cell is created two cells split from the progenitor cell: one sperm and another progenitor cell. In contrast, most of a woman's ovum are created at birth (in a similar process to the daily generation of men's sperm). It's debated whether or not the number of ovum is set at birth, but basically it's a lot slower than sperm generation.

One implication is that over a man's lifetime, his sperm will have accumulated many mutations. This is not good or bad, it's just the way of life. Some mutations will be bad, some will good, most won't matter (this is why it's not recommended to have children if you are an old man).

On a species-wide level sperm mutations are probably good. It is just another source of mutations to help keep the human species "fresh" other than sexual selection.

Another source of those kinds of mutations would be to have people in the population mixing around a lot, and at least as far as society is concerned, men tend to want to go around and bang lots of women. This is also a source of mutation and keeping the human race "fresh".

But there has to be a balance. If everyone did things that caused lots of mutations, our genome would become pretty chaotic. My thoughts/random-hypothesis-I-pulled-out-of-my-ass would be that probably there is buried in each human, man or woman, some epigenetic triggers for being wayward or insular in their relationships, and the state of this trigger depends on society as a whole - because it might be bad news if the genders were 200% wayward or 200% insular (100% male vs 100% female).

Based only on observation about what men and women are taught to like as far as sex is concerned, perhaps men have this trigger on and women don't. By "what we're taught" it's pretty obvious (though anecdotal) that men are more outgoing about initiating sex, for example, than women. This doesn't mean that women shouldn't or can't like sex, completely the contrary or else the species would be dead. Just that social pressures on the genders probably cause each of us to sorta "morph" into a horndog or not morph into a horndog based a lot on gender identity.

All in all it's really all probably a "softwired" feedback process that becomes temporarily hardwired (for lack of better way to put it) based on population and social dynamics that feed backwards onto our genes as society does what it does to cause people to want to bang certain people. For instance, due to economic stratification rich people tend (not always, but there is a bias) to associate with and bang other rich people in their proximity and poor people the same with other poor people.

I could go on and on but hopefully in that rambling something made sense!
