The only thing I have a problem with here is the lack of speed. Out on bail for an armed robbery, them arrested for another, I can see why bail would not be granted a second time here.

Incredible, In the UK the police can hold you for 24 hours without charge and then they must apply to a judge who can extend it up to 96 hours. If you are arrested for terrorism you can be held up to 14 days.

This is punishment without trial and not a small punishment either. How the judge can decide that turnover in the police is enough of a reason for this is completely beyond me. It essentially says that police ineffeciency or incompetence is enough reason to hold someone indefinitely. Effectively the police can hold you as long as they like by just being ineffecient.

He is accused of serious offences. They should be investigated quickly and he should either be released or indicted. After a year and a half they haven't even spoken to the alleged victim.

A broken police force and a broken judicial system.
