I hope to have a family someday and I do want to eventually work part time, or stay at home when kids are young. I feel ashamed of wanting this because I feel like men and women don't think much of SAHMs today. Many women seem very put off and annoyed at women who want to stay home, and some men view it as a "free ride" or lazy. I guess with men maybe there are trust issues with women doing this, or they don't expect women to live up to their idea of a SAHM?

My own parents both worked full time most of my childhood. As a teenager I didn't see much value in the SAHMs I knew, because they didn't look like they valued their appearance and barely cooked unless it was from a box(even my mom who worked was awesome cook/baker). I never understood why they didn't put in effort because they had the time...I feel bad saying that but come on.

On the other hand, I've known some women who were amazing homemakers and always had something in the oven, kept house, helped their kids with homework, projects, and took them to their extracurricular activities, looked great while doing it and were very sweet to their SO. They also would take care of the grandparents later in life.

Is anyone here a SAHM? How do you go above and beyond in your role as a RP homemaker? Have you had to deal with rudeness when you tell people you are a SAHM? From men or women, or both? It's to the point where I think about getting my master's just so if I do end up a SAHM, I won't get talked down to as much. Out of EVERY reason to go back to school, what a stupid, emotional reason. I don't really even believe in paying for school unless it benefits financially. I'm tired of feeling ashamed of this. Pretty sure I need to snap out of it. Help!
