Okay. I understand that these can be really good, but isn't the pressure put on men to provide really bad? If a man can't provide he's basically worthless in society's eyes, which is why so many kill themselves..they feel like a failure.
I know it says men protect, but the man typically would also be the provider in this family arrangement. No?
[–]40moreyears 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sure, but by the same token, women have pressure to reproduce and take care of the family domestically.
[–]flyredditguy[S] 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well protect doesn’t have to mean provider in this case (post) but yes sir you are 100% correct.
[–]Lion_amongst_gods 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ok. I'll bite.
From your comment I see that protecting per se, isn't the problem (may be you conflated it with providing?), but the lack of recognition for it is?
Also, in a mutually beneficial relationship (like a family) isn't it on each member to contribute in some way? So, if you're part of the family and you don't contribute (protection, heart, whatever), it's to be expected that you'll receive criticism. No?
[–]Iewoose 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Nah, the roles in the family can be different depending on what the respective members agree upon imo.
If a man works and a woman stays home-great. If a man stays home and a woman works-also great. If both work good for them!
As long as nobody is forced to do something against their will and are happy with the situation, i am happy for them.
Same for gay relationships btw. :)
[–]lxl 15 points16 points17 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I am a guy and I can be the heart at times. She can be the protector at times. Not sure about main roles, have to be in a relationship to figure that out ;)
[–]Broken_Face7 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
So, if people were coming to kill y'all, you'd send her out while you supported the children?
[–]Headless_mann 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No, you call the police, like a normal human being, I just realized this may be in poor taste. My apologies
[–]EscalationChronicle 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I know many men who give a lot of sacrifices for their families money, time, efforts, they drain themselves, btw family can be parents too.
[–]Lion_amongst_gods 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Aren't parents members of the family? I don't get your point. There are parents in the picture. Don't you see it?
[–]EscalationChronicle 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I mean the men can be a son sacrificing for his parents and siblings Or father sacrificing for his wife and children.
[–]graffitol 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I didn’t really agree with this antiquated attitude but having said that if there’s a noise downstairs in the middle of the night it’s me that has to creep downstairs with nothing more to protect myself that my wife’s hairbrush.

So just curious, how do you feel about gay marriage, now don't get me wrong, this post could just be about straight men, I'm just curious
[–]flyredditguy[S] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
To each their own, It’s your choice but as for me being a straight man and frustrated with love & dating/my children’s mother etc, this speaks to me personally as ideal.
[–]pyschoandie 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ok cool, I figured from how this sub has been, that's the most likely probiblty. I 💯 agree u can't include everyone in ever single post so thanks for answering
[–]Jakeybaby125 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Do you think homosexuality is a choice?
[–]flyredditguy[S] 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Why do you ask? and never put much thought into that subject but I guess so yes, everyone has their own choice.
[–]Xvillan 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Multiple people are typing
[–]Jakeybaby125 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
In that case, you're disagreeing with a scientific fact that homosexuality is genetic.
[–]flyredditguy[S] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
No I am just simply stating you have the ability/power to make your own choices.
[–]Jakeybaby125 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
OK fair enough so shouldn't that same logic apply to heterosexual people in that they chose to be straight?
[–]flyredditguy[S] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Of course, refer to my to each their own comment above
[–]Jakeybaby125 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
OK. Bit weird but I agree with your 'to each their own comment' despite it disagreeing with science but ok, you do you.
[–]flyredditguy[S] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Likewise.
[–]chintan22 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's not true. There are identical twins in which one of them is gay. It's not genetic (atleast entirely). We currently don't know why it occurs, but it is a natural phenomenon, not limited to humans.
[–]sotaponi 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Tbh, it also depends on whether you are actually romantically (and/or otherwise) attracted for genetic reasons or it's just a fetish. There are all sorts of fetishes I could have "genetically." Doesn't mean I have to, or even want to, nurture or indulge in them. Which makes certain types of behaviour especially questionable to me, in face of today's Western culture, in which a large percentage of people believe for a relationship without intercourse to merely equate a friendship. Moreover does this culture encourage people to indulge into everything mindlessly to a degree that it is ill.
If such types have a fetish that might have been nurtured or groomed, with them then thinking that a relationship without intercourse is merely a friendship, and pursue certain types of relationships... Personally I really don't want to subscribe to mentally stunted sex-positive characters. Nor do I want for such types to have any say what sex ed or the pushing of sexuality into public (and thus children, but also adults) in general is concerned. Be they heterosexual, homosexual, or whatever...
[–]MarsNirgal 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is a bit obsolete, ¿You know?
Men can be part of the heart of the family and should be just as much as women. And women can be protectors just as much as men.
Also, there are same sex couples where both parents are both the protector and the heart.
This picture feels like trapping people in pre-asigned roles that, while they may fit what most of society does and wants, should not under any circumstance to be considered absolute.
[–]Antogonissimus 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Honestly, if you like it that way, do it. But I think both men and women should be provider, protector and heart of the family.
[–]Badgerz92 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
Love the old fashion family values
Why? Why can't a man be the heart of the family? Why can't two men or two women form a union? Get this traditionalist bullshit out of here the old fashion family values are the root cause of a lot of men's issues.
[–]flyredditguy[S] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Some of you I think are getting my intentions wrong, just because I feel one way doesn’t mean every other way is frowned upon or bad, a man can definitely and is the heart of a family as well and people can make their own choices I’m not their judge. Sorry if you take offense to this.
[–]73HUIW 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's so bullshit
[–]Covered-in-Thorns 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I like the idea, ngl, but people should be able to choose to structure their family however they want right? If a woman wants to make money and provide, she should be able to, likewise she should be able to follow the typical way woman want to go without fear of being harassed by feminists.
This idea is kind of the default, and shouldn’t be condemned, because a lot of people prefer it that way, but we should allow others to do things a different way.
[–]remembadaname 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I no longer support marriage. After all the shit women have pulled the last 50 years. Men never benefit from a marriage. You always have more to lose.
Kids if you look at statistics are almost always better off with single fathers rather than single mothers who produce drug addicts, abusers, weak men, rapists, and dysfunctional men who have no ambition to better their situation
[–]Jakeybaby125 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
I'm not sure what I think of it. The message is good but it can be seen as homophobic by stating that only a man and a woman can be together.
[–]pyschoandie 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Not nessarley, that's y I asked my question. It could be used that way, but just cause a post is talking from a straight perspective doesn't mean it's homophobic. Just like a post talking from a male perspective doesn't automatically make it misandrnistic (sic)
[–]Jakeybaby125 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Oh right. I sound like an SJW on that. What am I coming to?
[–]pyschoandie 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Are you being sarcastic? I can't tell ur tone n if u arnt I'm queer myself, so the sentiment is appreciated n as I said it could be taken that way, I just don't think it was meant dat way. I think his talk of choice wen it comes to gay is alot more prombletic. Cause yes u can choose to be celliabete but in my opinion I don't think it's healthy, but if anyone has evidence to the contrary let me know
[–]Jakeybaby125 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
It's rhetorical. I though I sounded like an SJW when I saw my first comment. LGBT people, however, shouldn't have to be seen as negative. That's what I though this post implied. Maybe I was reading too far into it.
[–]pyschoandie -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Completely understanbly, that's y I asked him his intention. N very true, I appreciate the postitivtey. Are all mra subreddits this logic reasonable n postive? Cause if so y'all got a bad rap for nothing 😀
[–]Jakeybaby125 -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Most of us are. It's just the extremist incels that the feminists say are representative of our whole group that give us a bad name. Feminists also claim that we're misogynistic incels without even bothering to see why we're talking about these issues and then say that we're taking away from women's experiences.
[–]pyschoandie -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
N yet tell them rad fems terfs are representative of all feminist n they'll blow up.

I think gender roles are up to individual couples to decide. In my family, my father was the breadwinner and my mother was a housewife - so they had traditional gender roles. But when my sister and I went off to school, my mother had a lot of free time so she spent it doing all of the home improvements and maintenance. She repainted the house inside and out, ripped up the carpet, re-tiled all the rooms, etc.

But what if the lady has a penis 🤷♂️
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's up to the members of the family to individually decide their roles in it.
