Hawaii's feminist department in government (actually real) is proposing a "feminist economic recovery plan" that unsurprisingly discriminates against men and single fathers

She eventually got 2 years for manslaughter. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/woman-jailed-for-more-than-two-years-for-killing-control-freak-husband-with-wooden-pole-a4110796.html

[–]Allores[S] 15 points16 points17 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I suppose that's better than nothing, but 2 years is less than a man gets for fraud. And there's no evidence of "control freak" behavior.

Thanks for the find.

Yes, surely it's more hard to leave a supposedly abusive man who can't walk than to kill him as he lay in bed.

Before the attack, Ramanathan had become "very angry" at finding out her husband had written to Sri Lankan police accusing her brother of fraud and theft, according to the prosecution.

Mhm, was he right? Why did he do it? What was the fraud and theft?

Stephen Kamlish QC, defending, insisted the killing was unplanned.

He suggested that if the defendant had wanted to kill her diabetic husband, she could have given him a bigger dose of insulin and "no one would have known".

Mhmm, quite a solid defense if I must say. No reason a revenge killing should be called a murder when she could have just given him more insulin.

"She is frail she is slight she is getting on for anorexic weight. It's hard to beat someone to death with a stick when you are that size".

Yes, so so frail, so frail that she couldn't have possibly intended murder by beating a man who cannot escape to death in his bed. Or maybe so frail that she had to beat him longer than usual, prolonging his torture before dying.

Mr Kamlish urged jurors to acquit her of murder, saying: "After the hell of this trial, the hell of 36 years of abuse, you can show what you think of this prosecution and do the right thing by coming to a very fast verdict."

So the real defense is to shame the jury into a gynocentric result.

After deliberating for half an hour, the jury found Ramanathan not guilty of murder.

And it worked perfectly.

It's interesting that a woman can escape justice for her proven abuse simply by claiming that she was abused at one point with no evidence whatsoever.

[+]DogArgument -10 points-9 points-8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Was there no evidence for his abuse? How do you know that?

[+]DogArgument -6 points-5 points-4 points 6 years ago (30 children) | Copy Link

Yes, surely it's more hard to leave a supposedly abusive man who can't walk than to kill him as he lay in bed.

For a lot of people in abusive relationships, yes it absolutely is. Many can't even imagine life without their abuser, or will live in fear of retaliation if they do leave.

We don't know the specifics of this case, but here you are falling over yourself to defend the man and criticise the woman.

If we suppose that he really was incredibly abusive towards her, how would you feel about her killing him? Do you think there is ever a justification for killing your partner?

[–]12yuGemoS 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

No, she should have left even if he was abusive, clearly. This is a tangent, because I don't think it's relevant here given the health status of the man, but the only justification I can think of for killing your partner is if your life is in danger. She lives in the UK and could have very easily gotten out of an abusive situation if she was in one. Especially considering he could not walk.

I think this kind of reasoning when it comes to a spousal killing is mostly from women trying to get away with something rather than a genuine case of learned powerlessness. If there really is abuse, there should be evidence, not just accusations after a killing. Anyone who kills a disabled person who cannot escape as they lay in their bed is a disgusting human being.

I suppose the fact that women can get away with murder by claiming abuse doesn't factor into your analysis of the situation?

[–]DogArgument -2 points-1 points0 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I really hate that women can get away with serious crimes by crying abuse. But in cases of actual abuse I do understand leniency.

That said, I was only commenting to respond to your suggestion that it's simple to walk away from an abusive relationship.

As to this case, the simple fact that he was in a wheelchair does not mean that the situation is less serious. Not all abuse relies on physical intimidation. Most men are physically superior to their female partners, but still can be abused by them.

[–]SsoulBlade 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

Remember on thing. No one is stopping you from leaving. No one is controlling you. You are making a conscious choice to stay.

[–]DogArgument -2 points-1 points0 points 6 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

So it's always the fault of the abused for not leaving? And nobody in an abusive relationship has ever been controlled or physically restricted from leaving?

It is not always as simple as just walking out. Have you ever been anywhere near an abusive relationship? If your partner has full control of your social circle, your finances, and also terrifies you physically, leaving is not an easy thing to do.

Your comment is just so incredibly ignorant and unempathetic. You're a straight up piece of shit for thinking like that, no two ways about it.

[–]bufedad 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So it's always the fault of the abused for not leaving?

It is always the fault of the murderer for murdering.

You're fucked in the head lol

[–]SsoulBlade 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago* (21 children) | Copy Link

"So it's always the fault of the abused for not leaving? And nobody in an abusive relationship has ever been controlled or physically restricted from leaving?"

Do you know what is a strawman argument? Because the above is one. It is also full of mental gymnastics. Nowhere did I say it is the FAULT of any one. Copy and paste where I said "it's always the FAULT of the abused for not leaving"? Can you do that?

What I did say was: No one is stopping you from leaving. No one is controlling you. You are making a conscious choice to stay. In other words, your are responsible for your own actions as no one is forcing forcing you. You are imparting it on yourself to stay. Do you disagree?

"It is not always as simple as just walking out."

I know and never said it was not or it was. I said the DECISION to stay is at the end of the day YOURS and yours alone. Do you disagree?

"You're a straight up piece of shit for thinking like that, no two ways about it."

That's an ad hominem fallacy. I last used it on the play yard use. Reminds me of a quote. "When the debate has been lost, slander becomes the tool of the user" You are classic case of it.

[–]DogArgument 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

Lol did you just learn the fallacies or something? Because damn you're keen to apply them.

Those questions aren't a strawman. I'm asking because those seem to be the logical conclusion of what you're saying, but I think it's unlikely that you really believe that. Certainly, you'd avoid admitting so plainly that you feel that way. And, avoiding the word "fault" doesn't mean that it wasn't the meaning of your words anyway. But again, I was asking if you think that, not saying that you said it.

That also isn't ad hominem, since I wasn't forming any argument based on the insult. I explained my point of view, and then I let you know that you're an asshole. Two separate acts, not dependent on each other. Or did you forget about the rest of my comment, where I was attacking the argument?

Facepalm... I cringe every time I see kids like you using the same set of template arguments, thinking that the template can make your point for you, without actually giving any thought to how that template should be applied. And of course you link me to a list of fallacies, because to your pea brain, knowing the names in that list is all it takes to be a genius debater.

[–]SsoulBlade 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (19 children) | Copy Link

"Those questions aren't a strawman. I'm asking because those seem to be the logical conclusion of what you're saying"

To prove that your "thinking" was not a strawman. Copy and paste where I said or CLEARLY implied that it is their FAULT. No mental gymnastics please.

Attack what I said. Not what I did not say.

  • Having the choice in their hands and acting on it. When taking big choices in life you have to stand up for it. Nowhere was fault used.

"And, avoiding the word "fault" doesn't mean that it wasn't the meaning of your words anyway."

If I did not say or clearly implied it then mental gymnastics from you... Copy and paste where I said or CLEARLY implied that it is their FAULT.

"That also isn't ad hominem"

Calling someone names based on what they said is one of the the simplest forms of an adhom Saying you an ass is not an ad hom. Saying you an ass because of what you said/think is one because now i attack your character which provided said thinking/words.

Or did you forget about the rest of my comment, where I was attacking the argument?

You mean the strawman you started with? And then used an ad hominem to finish off? Yeah I saw it.

So, I asked to copy and paste evidence that gave rise to this whole discussion. Care to do it and prove I said it is their FAULT? If you are going the interpreted way then you have to prove that it can only be interpreted your way. And not read in any other way. And no mental gymnastics.

[–]DogArgument 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

To prove that your "thinking" was not a strawman. Copy and paste where I said or CLEARLY implied that it is their FAULT.

Did you not read what I said at all? Or did you just not understand it?

I'm not going to repeat myself, you clearly aren't worth the time.

Calling someone names based on what they said is one of the the simplest forms of an adhom

There's 4 types described in that image, which do you think I did?

[–]SsoulBlade 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

So you cannot copy and paste what I said that indicates that I blame them for not leaving? In addition, also justifying why your interpretation is the only one that one can arrive yet?

Interesting. You make a claim but does not back it it.

This is the crux of the matter that gave rise to this conversation...

[–]DogArgument 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

I've already explained my claim and why it does not rely on what you're asking for, and you just asked it again. I don't care enough on that point to keep spoon feeding you until you get it.

I'm much more interested in which of the 4 ad hominems in that image you linked you feel I committed. But you interestingly stayed quiet on that question. Could it be that you actually tried to properly read one of the coolguides you rely on to be a Top Tier Debater, and realised that none of them apply to me, for the reasons that I already explained?

[–]Zappaa1142 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

He's criticising someone who murdered another person. I don't care what the hell he did to her over 35 years. If I was a lawyer trying my best to defend someone who murdered their husband, I would claim he was abusive too, thanks to battered women laws. I wonder how much evidence was presented that he was abusive.

[–]DogArgument 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd also be interested to know how they proved the abuse, I'd that her word is enough to do that. I said nothing to defend her though. I'm criticising the user's toxic and unempathetic viewpoint towards abuse victims in general, which was revealed in their comment.

[–]RyansPutter 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm confused as to how the UK legal system works. Why did she plead guilty to manslaughter and then get found not guilty for murder? If she plead guilty to manslaughter, wouldn't that have been a plea bargain and the murder charges wouldn't have gone to trial?

[–]DreddyMann 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Manslaughter and murder is the same legally AFAIK

[–]MilManShow 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You expect what? See where it happened? You'[re surprised? You're new to this planet?

[–]DubsPackage 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I love how the media smears the husband on the wife's behalf by parroting that he "abused her."

Sure, if you kill someone just say they abused you, everyone will believe it and say, "What a bastard, he abused her, pass it on."

Whereas a dead body and a bloody stick needs a months long trial, evidence and lawyers to prove, "he abused her" is taken at face value without any trial or evidence because of false cultural narratives propogated by feminism.

In all other cases, vigilanteism has no legal defense.

If you see a crack dealer on the corner, you can't just walk up and shoot him, even if he really is a crack dealer. It's not a defense to say "he's selling crack near my kids."

But in women murdering their husbands, vigilanteism is not only a viable defense, but not even need to be proven to smear his name posthumously in a court-of-law.

And this in the UK is called "Justice."
