You invited them to dinner and local activities. Worry about the dinner and local activities. Let your SO worry about conversation that only happens with him.

Having said that, if your friend's SO is complaining in front of your friend, you could usefully help her work out what she can change about herself to encourage better behaviour from her SO, bearing in mind that she won't be able to change his behaviour directly.

(And if the friend's SO isn't complaining in front of your friend, then how the hell do you know about it? That might be worth a reveal...)

It is not really your business what her SO is complaining about to your SO or the fact he is complaining at all. Just let him handle it and let the guys talk. Don't worry about it.

It's not a ton of your business what her SO complains to your SO about. If you're overhearing it ignore it. If your SO is telling you then you can politely ask him not to. It's okay to say that you don't want to hear it. If you're stuck where you have no choice but to listen you can politely change the subject or excuse yourself.

You don't need to decipher it.

Why do you feel the need to decipher male behavior? This post leads me to believe you have some "know-it-all" insecurity in that you want to figure out how everyone around you thinks, what they are talking about, how their lives are going, etc. Let go. You are letting yourself become a control freak.

Unless your SO talks to you about this, let your SO handle it. It's his job.

I'll start by saying I'm a man. Let your SO decide how to deal with it. By all means you could ask his opinion of it in private, but let him handle it. If he's truly bothered by it he'll handle it when they're speaking. Men deal with men in a much different manner than women deal with men. If it's not worth your SO's time he'll let it slide. Personally this is what I would do with the understanding I have of the situation you've described. Not worth my time to deal with some random fuck face that complains too much unless it's in public or it's fucking with my vibe. And if it is an issue, trust that your SO will handle it.

As other commenters have mentioned, just worry about the things that are your responsibility.

Think about this, when a male lion comes up to pride it doesn't belong to, who meets him and judges him? The male lion in charge. The females don't even bother themselves with the situation because it's the male lion's responsibility.

If it's an issue for you, then I would recommend discussing it with your SO. Give him your problems and let him find the solution. If it's not a serious issue, drop it.
