Women in Mexico have decided to protest by not showing up to work. Serious Question. What do you think would happen if men decided to do the same thing? Just for one day, every man at every job says "not today".

Don't know what would happen, but as a man living in Mexico City, I can tell you what I'm seeing today, so far, zero traffic, usually it takes me an hour and a half to get to work, today it took me 30 min, usually I see 4-5 traffic accidents daily, so far I've seen none, usually at work it takes me 40-60 minutes to receive bank deposits and billing stuff, today it took 5 minutes, usually it takes me about an hour of chatting up the sales women for them to give me some work orders so I can fulfill them, today it took 10 minutes, so far this has been the most efficient day of my work life.

In the US, there are certain jobs for which it is illegal to participate in a general worker strike. It's generally things associated with "keeping the lights on", literally and figuratively. They are worked predominantly by men.

It depends on the volume of people participating. There are likely some women who simply cannot afford to do this because they have to work to make money to provide for their families and aren't well off enough to just not go to work as a protest. Same thing applies for men who live the same kind of life.

I think then another question would be what is the demographic make up of these protesting women? If men were to do the same thing, what would that demographic make up be?

I don't live in Mexico, I'm in the US, but I know if my mother attempted to participate in such a protest she would lose her job and subsequently the rest of what she's built working full time at a shitty pay rate. Her, and other 40 something's men and women with mortgage, bills, and other expenses, don't have the luxury of just not going to work. So then who does? And whoever these people are, would they really be representing the rest of the women (or men) who have to work and want to work to survive?

In the end, it seems like a wasteful protest. But this is completely all just my opinion and stream of thoughts, there's no facts here.

I work at a restaurant owned by a women, she wants to open but all female staff to rest. I’m the cook but she wanted me to be cashier and barman that day to cover for the girls and I said that was hypocritical of her to expect girls not to work but she still be earning money at the cost of men, at the end of the day men would be working more, earning more this week than the girl staff and she would still be earning like a normal day even though she “is dead” for today. She ended up calling me a mysoginist, that every girl at work complains about my macho attitude (even though I am pretty good friend with every girl there and never had any trouble). Needles to say, today is my last day at that place, can’t stand being called out just for not wanting to participate in what I think it is just a publicity stunt for her, if she really cared about it she would close the restaurant for the day, but money is more important than feminism for her I guess

not sure about Mexico but in the UK ~10% of employees in Electrical Powerplants, Water Treatment/Wastewater Management, Natural Gas Infrastructure, Electrical Grid Infrastructure are female. (The article doesn't give any granularity about what their actual roles are within those organizations but clearly they are a small percentage of the overall staffing for critical infrastructure organizations). - If women walked out it seems highly likely that the powergrid and water supply would remain in operation. - If men walked out of those positions we'd have no power or water immediately.

We'd also have no functioning police or fire fighting service. - the Military/National Guard would be unable to assist in any meaningful capacity with >80% of their forces unavailable.

The railroads and shipping would entirely shut down fairly quickly (even the female drivers would be unable to refuel without a functioning power grid to operate fuel pumps).

hospitals would possibly be able to continue some operations until the fuel for their backup generators are depleted; not sure about Mexico but in the US hospitals are required to have enough fuel to operate backup generators for at least 96 hours so they might be able to keep the lights on for a day. - I haven't found anything about fresh water reserves. regardless I suspect Mexican hospitals are not likely to have enough backup power or water to handle a 24 hour outage.

If by every man you include law enforcement, firefighters, utility personnel, and military personnel, then total collapse and anarchy.

-Utility grids would begin to collapse. Without linemen, there would be no one to repair anything. Neighborhoods and then cities would be plunged into blackouts.

-Criminals would take advantage of the fact that most cops and security guards are taking the day off to riot and loot.

-Fires would burn out of control since there would be almost no firefighters.

-Prisoners would riot since there would be a lot less guards. Since men make up most SWAT/CERT members, there would be no way to control them and there would be mass breakouts.

-Garbage would sit out on the curb, uncollected.

-EMS and hospitals would fare a little better, since women make up a majority of nurses and a sizeable minority of paramedics and doctors. But the paramedics would have to do their jobs without the assistance of police and firefighters. There would also be no male nurses to handle combative patients at hospitals and no male security guards to handle the influx of people caused by the chaos of the day.

-Iran would take advantage of the fact that the ships of the Fifth Fleet have at most 1/5 of their usual crew and destroy the fleet, then finish off the day by mining the Strait of Hormuz.

My wife listens to NPR, which infuriates me, but also keeps me informed on what leftists are up to. They had a report on this strike, and the most infuriating thing about it was that they talked to people at the Mexico City offices of L’Oreal, the company that uses domestic abuser Amber Heard as its spokeswoman.

It felt like an absolute slap in the face. NPR doesn’t even bother to hide its misandry anymore.
