Do you practice facial expressions?

I saw a speech-language pathologist for the first time yesterday in group therapy and she remarked at the beginning that my face was very "flat", that I looked very serious, and that it was hard to "read me".

I don't really know what to make of that, because I was just answering basic, neutral questions about myself. She hadn't said anything funny, or sad, or very interesting at that point... so what facial expressions was she even trying to read? Furthermore, isn't it a bit entitled to expect to be able to "read" someone that you've just met? I can't help but feel that she's just another person who can't see past my face itself, because people have been guessing my feelings incorrectly ever since I was a child (note that no one ever bothers to ask, people just like to assume) . We can't all be born with big, expressive eyes, can we? And I don't believe in makeup anymore except for special occasions.

I didn't really get to ask her these things because there was another girl there and I didn't want to take up all of the time.

Rpw, what are your thoughts on facial expressions? What is an expressive face and is this something that I owe to other people? Do you think it is worth going back? I feel like she is not quite the caliber of my regular therapist anyway.
