I've been a lurker for about a year and this is my first time making a post. I'm so glad that I came to this side of Reddit while I'm still young and in college because I've learned SO much and still have more to learn. I've had boyfriends in the past but I'm about to go into a relationship for the first time where I would be able to implement the values I've picked up from RPW.

I recently met a lovely guy (23) at school and he's a goofy, silly, caring, and intelligent Psych major. I find that he brings a balance in me - someone that's generally serious, reserved, quiet, and have 'sophiscated' (older?) tastes. We've been on one date so far but we've expressed going out again and to actually start seriously seeing each other, romantically. Last night, he expressed to me that he feels intimidated by me because I'm intelligent and have refined tastes, making him feel as if he'd never measure up. I was so hurt and shocked that he felt that way. I reassured and consoled him that I would never make him feel that way on purpose. He continued to tell me that he's a simple man and I possess varied interests and he fears that I'll become bored of him.

So far, I've shown myself to be doting, sweet, a great listener and submissive type. A far cry from the budding raging feminist I was in high school and during my first year in college.

He's caring, understanding, and tells me that he wants to do the things I enjoy so he can become more well rounded which I can respect. But, I would love to do things he would enjoy as well like going to a hockey game and just being casual.

Please tell me how I can change this. This isn't the first man to express that I come across this way.
