What's with all the recent Disney movies having female leads?

Female leads aren't really a problem for me.

It's HOW they're written I take issue with. The very people who lambaste old-school male scribes for their inability to create proper female characters can only think of them one way:

Flawless, Ass-kicking, sassy smart mouths who don't take no crap from men who, ironic enough, tend to favor the very masculine characteristics they are always decrying.

I'm tired of this trope and long for the days when a female character didn't need to act like Hollywood's version of a manly man in order to come off strong and independent.

The first full length feature film was Snow White, with a female lead, and a female villain, and male supporting cast. You could say they're just going back to their roots.

However, I definitely agree with you on the Aladdin thing. The point there was to tell a story that was already written by someone else.

I don't care if there's female leads, I just don't want feminism/SJW garbage shoved down my throat during the movie. I want to watch a movie to see the plot of the movie, not political agenda.

It's about reeling people in. Disney owns several brands and each brand has the job of reeling in a specific set of people with common likes/dislikes. Once you have brands that cover every aspect that a crowd might like/dislike, you have complete control over not just one set of people but on everyone who watches television or on screen entertainment. Once you have everyone on a leash, you can optimise profits by manipulating crowd behaviour. It's data analytics 101

This is Disney being Disney. Most of their animated movies have had female leads in the form of princesses. They're sticking to what they know the best.

I know what you mean. I feel like part of that is Disney is kind of geared toward girls more than boys, I mean of course both watch it but that's what I get from it (could be wrong, though). But I definitely agree with the user that was saying they have issue with how the characters are written. They're trying to appeal to people and it's not working. I don't need the super amazing mary sue ish female lead and the dumb, isn't competent on his own supporting male in every movie (or TV show for that matter). It's the pressure because I think on this site there were people complaining about disney movies being sexist and too many male leads etc so they're trying to "fix " it I guess. It's dumb. Can't we just have shows and movies for entertainment and not to push a narrative or whatever you want to call it

It's not just disney, I've noticed it a lot of movies lately. Also quite a few have the similar trend of female finding out something horrible, a guy gets the blames, girl does loads of terrible things, guy says he's sorry and then she saves the day. X-men dark phoenix literally ran that line. People can enjoy whatever they want but I thought that movie was kind of fucked up. Jean grey causes chaos, murders raven and uses her powers to force Charles to walk (which I thought was probably the worse bit of that movie) but Charles gets the blamed because he protected her from the knowledge that she murdered her parents. Then at the end she's a hero because she saved the world she helped fuck up. Sorry that turned into a rant, my point is a lot of movies have turned SJW and I don't think it makes for a good movie. That's just my opinion though.
