So a few months ago, I helped my mother with painting the garage walls for a party that would happen in a few weeks and after we finished and got McDonald’s, we ended up talking about the treatment of men and women in society and she said how she believed that women should be held higher than men and if a man fights back against a women in self defense, than it’s wrong. My mother is a nice lady however and is very right leaning in politics. I have no idea how to feel about this..

I have had similar discussions with female family members, and they never seem to understand the basic point of my stance on men being able to get to a point to defending themselves.
It starts with this, "There is never ever a reason to hit a women." While almost everyone would agree with this statement, I find a few issues with it.
Then as soon as there is a challenge to the statement, there is "He should just walk away!" And giving the situation, this is what most men will do.
Then I ask, "Well what if he does try to walk away, and she just keeps wailing on him?"
The response is usually a repeat of the last statement "He should just walk away!"
Then I inject and ask, "OK, but if she just keeps it up? He is telling her to stop and she does not?" Usually at this point the female I'm having this discussion with becomes very angry, and the discussion goes to shit, and I'm all of a sudden an asshole, and promoting the abuse of women, which I am not. Please bare with this until my final point at the end.
If the discussion does continue, I the next response is, "Then he should grab her arms." My next response is "OK, I agree, if you want to stop getting hit, logical and expected. Let me ask, if you would happen to come across this situation, without any prior knowledge, what would your thought be?" I often get a look like I have three heads at this point. "What is the first thing you think she will start saying or screaming if he grabs her arms?" "LET ME GO! Next thing you know 2 or more White Knights, will come to help her, chances are you are in for an asskicking, adding insult to injury. Another thing is even if some people, male and female have prior knowledge, they will not step in to help him, some will even to stand around watch and laugh.
If I make it to this point ,which is very hard, I leave them with this. "If the expectation is that there is never ever a reason to hit a woman, then what ever gives women a right to hit a men in the first place? Are they not basically attacking someone who is defenseless?" "Why would you provoke / attack someone who could really cause you harm if they decide to engage?" "As a man I sure as hell am not going to provoke another man who is 5 inches taller, and weighs 80lbs more than I do, keep hitting him and not expect him not to lay a finger on me.
This is the main problem, women are taught / brainwashed to think that they have a right to attack men, and nothing should happen to them.
I even have to explain to all of them that I'm not saying beat the shit out of her. As a human right you should have the right to defend yourself. A hard shove, a slap to the face, to bring her back to reality, to stop / defuse the situation.

Ask her loads of questions until she sees the absurdity of her position.
