That's not the way you talk to a man or treat a man
If there's 1 sentence to take away from the passage, it's this. How many times have you heard this in your life? (I never have) Versus how many times have you heard the sentence with women instead of men? (Lost count)
[–]goldguyperson 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I totally agree.
[–]DJ-Roukan 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well, I don't feel any of that stuff we are told we need, but if it happened, I'd get back up...but it would suck to be lashed out at, blamed, attacked, rather than comforted when I was down. That's certainly not the way to talk to men.
I don't know much, but I know that much.

The original text
Boys are beautiful. They suffer the wrongs of the society too, but they are blamed for their own misery. They are never victims, always the oppressors. They are expected to be strong. They are expected to be financially stable. They are expected not to even cry. No one say "That's not the way you talk to a boy or treat a boy". They are, always, thought of as the heroes. But boy are tired of being heroes. Boy want to fail, feel hurt, get broken, give up, lose, scream, and cry in their frustration. They love their mothers, their sisters, their daughters, and their girlfriends. They struggle hard to express their love, but they silently care. Isn't that beautiful
Source of the original appears to be a twitter user called 'amit mehta' Someone has replaced 'boys' in the quote with 'men', and added some stuff at the end.
Personally I do not believe it is true that boys or men 'want to fail, feel hurt, get broken, give up, lose, scream, and cry in their frustration' It may be true that boys need to experience these things, as girls do, as part of growing up.
Of course, men may experience these things, fail, feel hurt, get broken, give up, lose, scream, and cry in our frustration - but in those circumstances surely we must start again, face setbacks, overcome injury, persist, achieve and exult in our victory.
Men, healthy men, do not desire to fail, to be broken, to cry, but it may be fair to say that when these things do happen, we desire not to be shamed, kicked while we are down, laughed at, mocked, told that we deserve no better.

I think what might have left out is the part of men being allowed to feel this way without their partner shaming, insulting, or flat out ending things.

Considering how the post seems to originate from a Non-Native English speaker, i think she did want to say that "Men should be ALLOWED to fail and feel hurt and not Shamed,Belittled&Ignored by the Society" but she couldn't find the right words for it.

They're not expected to be strong. They're expected to be useful tools for the ruling class and for women, and not deign to be actual people where its inconvenient. The "Strong" shit is how feminists gaslight men into thinking feminists care about mens issues, then they use that to just derail them and push female supremacy under the idea that fighting "Patriarchy" helps men.

Men don't "silently care". Men care loudly and in public, when a man works his ass off to provide shelter, food, and care for their family. This is not silent, it's loud and aggressive.
Men die in war to protect the society that gives every possible chance to women at success. This is NOT silent!
Men give a care that is loud and powerful, public and convicting! Society doesn't listen when men care, they expect it, they demand it, and take it for granted.
[–]weneedbackup32 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
And when we don't care we are just "trash" of society seriously tho its so tiring.. We are expected to give, give and give without even expecting anything in return, isn't it unfair when you cared so much before but the second you gave up you are "trash".. Why?

People are hung up on the "men want to fail" thing. I DO want to fail. By failing, I KNOW, how to NOT do something. Failing is learning. Embrace failure.
[–]weneedbackup32 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Nah we do not want to fail, we just want to feel that it's okay to fail.. We want to have the support.. "it's okay" "you are not a failure" "it's just not your time"
[–]fractalphony 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Maybe you didn't read what I said entirely. I'm not alone in embracing failure as a learning tool. By failing, I may not have accomplished the intended task yet, however I have learned how not to do said task.
Regarding the development process of the modern lightbulb:
THOMAS EDISON - I DIDN'T FAIL. I JUST FOUND 2,000 WAYS NOT TO MAKE A LIGHTBULB; I ONLY NEEDED TO FIND ONE WAY TO MAKE IT WORK.

It’s not that the struggles of men are silent, they just fall on deaf ears.
[–]StrongAffordance 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Men don’t want to “fail, feel hurt, etc etc”. They just want to be appreciated and respected for what they do. This missed the point.
[–]Razorbladekandyfan 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Men grovelling for their utility to be apprciated won't do anything.
[–]StrongAffordance 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Didn’t say it would. This still missed the point. Groveling for the right to cry won’t do anything either.

If you're not providing for someone who doesn't love you, or dying in a war, you're not a "man" according to society. Honestly, women would kill themselves in a day, if they had to live as men for a week...

We can end the ''want to fail'' discussion by simply interpreting ''want'' as ''want to be allowed'' which is most likely what the author meant. No one wants to fail, cry, bla, bla, bla, but we want to be allowed to. We want to be able to fail because through failure we can improve. We want to be able to cry to have an outlet on strong emotions. We want to be able to feel hurt because then we can process it and help our self. Interpreting it like that makes more sense going by the overall tone of this... article? message? whatever one would call it.

Yes, because men secretly want to be women, right?
No, femininity is not the ambition nor the inherent qualities or attributes of most men.
Men are masculine not because they are expected to be but because they just are and there’s nothing wrong with that. The largest cohort of men are inherently masculine and to pretend that they aren’t is cruel. Yes, there are outliers who are more like the men reflected in the sentiment above but they are not the vast majority and yes it’s cruel to enforce typical masculinity on them but is it less cruel than expecting masculine men to embrace a lifestyle which they get no internal or external rewards for?
Stop asking masculine men to be anything else than masculine but please make exceptions and afford for those men who aren’t.
[–]weneedbackup32 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
It's not about being feminine ffs, since when is expressing feelings be a feminine trait? We men still need the support don't we? Don't you want to be appreciated for your hard work and not be kicked when you failed?
[–]v573v 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Right because men don’t kick themselves the hardest above anyone else whenever they fail...
Although the external rewards are beneficial to men’s well being their internal rewards for hard work are also important to them.
Expressing emotions? Um... you need to read that again because they are talking about crying which is something men are less likely to do and that’s problematic for women who are known to cry over trivialities such as a bad work review or during a particularly intense workout. Men not crying as much as women needs to be addressed for women’s equality at the expense of men - women’s equality with men demands that men must cry often because women cry often.
Men need different support that’s complimentary to their way but expecting men to cry as a catch-all means to alleviate their stress is ridiculous - the vast majority of them aren’t built that way.
[–]weneedbackup32 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It doesn't say anything about men crying about trivial things though?
Men do cry when things got really hard tho... I myself also do not agree that men should cry the same as women to "express their feelings".. Men and women socialise differently and so is their way of expressing.. I dont say men should cry. I just said men should be free to express their feelings, their sadness over failure..
I myself have found it hard when I got no support when I'm at my lowest but I guess that is what kinda makes us "men" though people can be different.. No matter how tough you are there will be a breaking point and we men also need support when we are at our own breaking point
[–]v573v 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
See, that’s the problem! It’s not enough that men have emotions but they need to announce those emotions to somebody else so that their emotions are properly confirmed as indeed ‘emotions’ and to what end? Men bond over activities not conversations.
What hurts men isn’t their lack of emotional expression it’s the emotional isolation that they too often endure after their friendships drift apart from the time constraints of serious relationships and modern family life. Today’s men lose their free time to bond with friends over an activity so their significant other often becomes their only emotional support and during a time of relationship separation these men lose their entire emotional support system and they are left completely alone.
So, men need to ‘express their emotions’ in a condition of total isolation for their own benefit? That looks a lot like kicking a person when they are down to me.
[–]Razorbladekandyfan 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
How is giving men a buffer to be vulnerable wanting them to be women? I swear to fucking god...
[–]v573v 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Men are being appreciated under the above terms because they exhibit a femininity very few men are able to achieve and you don’t think that’s bullshit?
The very notion that men want to cry is absurd! Crying is an uncontrollable emotional response to a stimuli so the lack of male tears isn’t in response to peer pressure or a man’s personal inhuman ability to control an uncontrollable emotion - it’s just not in their nature to cry over trivialities such as frustration or failure. The above sentiment is pretending that there’s something defective about men and their inherent masculinity while overlooking that fact that masculine men, as they are, are perfect.

No guy would say something so utterly stupid.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yeh I want to fail. Literally no one ever did anything great without failing. Yes I want to be able to cry if I need to, it's a biological function, not for women only. The feel sorry for yourself bit was added in by you so.
Please don't police what men can and can't do and say. Especially not on a men's rights forum.
[–]TibortheChechen 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You need to adjust your attitude. No one wants a weak male despite all the BS feminists and women spread around.
I haven't found that to be the case. Failing is a part of life, you cannot avoid it, the more you fail, the better you get. You can choose to learn from them and make yourself even better than before, you can just get angry or give up. I do the former, that's not weakness, that's the definition of strength. So, I'm going to carry on doing that and you just do whatever you want, it's not my business.
