Why does this subreddit hate the new Gillette ad?

Basically it's an expression of a society that already vilifies men on the basis of their gender and makes broad brush generalizations on men as a group, while arguing that "some men" might not be bad like the rest of them.

It's accusatory and makes it out that all men behave that way and you're not neutral at all because you claimed it was a 'good message', you just outed yourself in one sentence lol. Do you not see the problem with claiming that fathers just laugh off kids fighting with each other or men taking part in belittling women?

Okay then. I'll put to you just two of the question(s) I asked in my analysis of the ad:

"Men need to hold other men accountable." By what theory do I owe you, or any other man, an accounting or explanation for anything that I do? What is your next step if I refuse to be 'held to account' by you?

I remember a situation from a few years ago where I was at a bar and this guy I didn't know made some crude remark sexualising underage girls. I pulled out my notebook and asked to see his ID and for his details. He backed up real fast and realised what he said was inappropriate.

I heard an expert from a book call (IIRC) Daughters of Feminism. In it, a woman tells the story of witnessing a drunk guy on a train harras another women. Her initial reaction was 'oh geez, here's another horrible man' but then she looked around the train carriage and saw all of the other men glancing at each other in a silent agreement to step in if it went too far.

If it does go too far, then men will step in. There are several videos on youtube where people have set up a situation where actors act out a man abusing a woman in public. Inevitably people step in to stop it.

This is normal male behaviour.

Now consider what kind of ad you would make if you had the view that men are good decent people and the negative treatment women recieve is deviant from that.

If I were to make that ad it would reinforce masculine virtues. I'd talk about how a few men need a bit of guidance. I'd say that by improving yourself you can inspire others to be better.

That is not the ad we got.

The ad we got views a range of bad behaviour as typical for men. It talks about how 'something changed' with the metoo movement as if a few years ago men were unenlightened savages. The way you have been living is wrong, give up your old sinful ways and embrace civilisation.

Here's my question to you. Do you view men as good decent people, or as savages in need of civilising?

Matt Christensen And Tim Pool did a good covering of the ad.

But ask yourself. Do you imagine a company doing a similar aiming to women and telling them to stand against toxic femininity and be better?

LOL! Make an ad showing Muslims acting in a mostly negative way -- blowing shit up, bashing Jews, calling non-Muslim women whores, throwing gays off buildings -- then throw in the line "Some Muslims already do the right thing," and then go ask a Muslim subreddit how THEY feel about THAT! You are either very disingenuous or very stupid.
