Hi guys, I really need Male participants for my dissertation survey doesn’t take long. I hope to make even a small difference in society regarding Male health care access as it’s an important Male rights issue and this research is my starting point. Many thanks.

Done.

I've often heard men blamed for not talking about their problems. But in my experience they do talk about them and they are told to shut up.

I took part in a face-to-face family survey looking at longitudinal violence in families and some of my history came out. The student doing the survey was working with my states social services department. She was genuinely sympathetic and asked if I wanted her to organise some counseling.

I said that would be nice. She got back to me 4 days later and said that she'd spoken to every department social worker and counselor (all female) in the area and even checked the surrounding districts. Not one was willing to help a man abused by a woman.

She did find an online pdf I could download and print up. It said "men can be victims too" and it had a phone number to a disconnected line.

I don't think it's men asking for help that's the problem.

That is an awful experience, no one deserves to be denied help for abuse no matter who the abuser is, so sorry you had to go through that.

I do think that is another important problem that influences help-seeking and it should definitely be researched thoroughly.

It is potentially a factor that influences male’s attitudes towards help seeking and I will be looking into this, thanks for highlighting this aspect of the issue.

I always ask for a male doctor or pharmacist. Otherwise they will be replaced by women.

I tried filling it out, but it kept telling me there was a problem with "question 8." I seemed to think that I had chosen more than one answer (which I had not). I tried a couple of times to fix it, but end the end gave up. Radio buttons are your friend.

I completed the survey and wanted to point out what could be a blind spot. There isn't much in the way of confidence that people will care.

I know some of the answers I give are related to the fact that I don't expect anyone to help me when I'm in trouble. I expect to either be berated or told to just tough it out, man up, etc.

Having questions related to state of family bonds, friendships, work environment, etc could help to isolate more variables and improve your data set.

You might want to reach out to Dr. Sherman. Sorry, did a quick google search for male patient modesty. Couldn't find any links. Dr. Helen talks about it too though. It might be easier to track that down. Some male patients avoid doctors out of modesty concerns.

My mom mentioned to me once that a male doctor asked her if she wanted a female doctor. I've never experience a doctor ever asking me if I wanted a male doctor. I took her to the hospital recently and stepped out into the hall when the doctor came in. He was a male doctor. Within seconds a female "chaperone" went in. I've never experience that either. The one time a medical professional ever mentioned protecting my modesty ironically enough was a male nurse.

I’ll be sure to look into that. Sounds helpful and interesting thank you.

You questions are horrendous.. I stopped midway. Whether or not one seeks professional help entirely depends on the magnitude of the problem and their ability to deal with it themselves or work within their nonprofessional support system.

There is no context in your questions, making answering them completely dependant on the readers assumption of context.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Done. A couple questions I found difficult:

What is your family size (e.g. 3) include your partner, parents, children and siblings?

Do you mean nuclear family? The people in my household? I have parents, but they don't live with me. Does my kid count if I only have 25% of her time?

A person with an emotional problem is not likely to solve it alone, he or she is likely to solve it with professional help..

False dichotomy. I think the majority of emotional problems are solved with non-professional help. Not alone, and not professionally.

There was also a question with about three negatives in it that I had to "disagree" with, and I'm still not sure if I answered it correctly.

Fyi. The human male is called a "man". Being called a male triggers me.
